Enhancing Connectivity: Datia Airport Takes Flight

Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, have officially set the wheels in motion for Datia Airport’s development. This airport, a long-standing demand from the region, is set to become a crucial node in the state’s air travel network. Let’s delve into the details of this significant project.

A New Beginning

Datia Airport, a project estimated at around Rs. 50 crore, is slated for completion by February 2024. The development plan includes an overhaul of the existing 1810-meter runway, the construction of an apron capable of hosting two nineteen-seater aircraft, a spacious 750-square-meter terminal building, and an ATC tower. During peak hours, the terminal will comfortably accommodate up to 100 passengers.

Regional Connectivity Takes Flight

The transformation of Datia’s airstrip into a full-fledged airport aligns with the Regional Connectivity Scheme, UDAN. This ambitious scheme aims to bolster connectivity by bridging the last mile, and Datia Airport’s inauguration will undoubtedly be a milestone in this journey. The airport will not only enhance regional connectivity but also provide essential services to travellers, fostering overall regional growth.

Bridging the Gap

Addressing the audience at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia emphasized that Civil Aviation is not just about connecting major cities; it’s also about linking the country’s sacred sites. Indeed, the development of Datia Airport is part of a broader strategy, with new airports sprouting up across the nation. Once completed, Datia Airport will serve as a vital link, with flights connecting Khajuraho and Bhopal, both of which have already been awarded routes under RCS UDAN.

Shri Scindia extended his heartfelt appreciation to Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and the state government for their unwavering support in the region’s development.

A Growing Aviation Landscape

Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a remarkable surge in aircraft movement over the years, a testament to the state’s growth. From 506 flights per week in 2014 to 554 in 2021, and now soaring to an impressive 956, there’s been a remarkable 72.5% increase compared to 2021 and a staggering 89% leap from 2014. Datia Airport’s development for 19-seater aircraft operations will undoubtedly supercharge regional connectivity while promoting tourism in the region.

Distinguished Presence

The foundation stone-laying ceremony was graced by the presence of several distinguished individuals, including Shri Narottam Mishra, Minister for Home Affairs, Law and Legislative Affairs, Prisons, and Parliamentary Affairs in the Government of Madhya Pradesh, and Smt. Sandhya Ray, MP(LS). Notably, Shri Sanjiv Kumar, Chairman of AAI, Shri Asangba Chuba Aao, JS, MoCA, and other officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and the Airports Authority of India were also in attendance.
