India and Australia sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation

MoU to help give fillip to tourism post pandemic between the two countries

On the 11th of February 2022 in New Delhi, India and Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation. Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, signed the MoU on behalf of the Indian Ministry of Tourism, and The Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Investment signed it on behalf of the Australian Government.

The tourism Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will improve collaboration and stimulate the expansion of bilateral tourist relations.

The Memorandum of Understanding will ease the exchange of tourism-related information and data. Tourism stakeholders, notably hotels and tour operators, should work together. Cooperation and exchanges between tourism and hospitality training and education providers, In the tourist and hospitality industries, there is a lot of money to be made.

Visits by tour operators and wholesalers, as well as members of the media and opinion leaders Tourism development that is of high quality, safe, ethical, and long-term. Major cultural, artistic, and sports events piqued people’s interest. Enhanced tourist involvement in multilateral fora and opportunities for traveler education on applicable laws, rules, and directions in each other’s nation.

Australia is one of India’s most significant tourist destinations (ranked 4th in terms of Foreign Tourist Arrivals to the country in 2019 and contributing 3.4 percent in total tourism share of foreign tourists in the country). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Australia would help boost visitor arrivals from this vital source market.

On November 18, 2014, India and Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on tourist collaboration in the sector. Three Joint Working Group Meetings on Tourism between India and Australia were held under the terms of the stated MoU. This Memorandum of Understanding has come to an end in 2019.
