A Trip Down Louisiana’s Golf and Music Trail

From its rich history in jazz and blues to an impressive golfing culture, Louisiana presents one of the most interesting and unique experiences, blending the state’s diverse musical roots with the expanse of sprawling golf courses, in this exciting itinerary encompassing the top spots for golf and music enthusiasts.

Day One: Carencro & Lafayette

Begin this exciting trip along Louisiana’s golfing and music trail in Lafayette Parish’s Carencro town at Farm d’Allie Golf Club, a scenic 18-hole course blending the state’s natural beauty and perfect rolling terrain for golf. Next, proceed to Lafayette to spend a night of music and dance at the world-famous honky-tonk, the Blue Moon Saloon.

For dinner, explore Lafayette’s renowned dining scene. Try Johnson’s Boucanière for smoked meats and boudin or Parish Brewing Co. in Broussard for local craft beer and light bites. Rest at the Juliet Hotel, a boutique stay downtown. The next morning, experience a traditional zydeco breakfast, where you can fuel up on biscuits, eggs and boudin while local bands play, before heading to Baton Rouge.

Day Two: Plaquemine & Baton Rouge

Travel along the Mississippi River to Plaquemine and tee off at The Island Golf Course, a semi-private course known for its lush setting and challenging play to try your hand at some serious golfing. On your way to Baton Rouge, stop at Teddy’s Juke Joint, a legendary, intimate spot in Zachary known for its blues and neon lights.

For dinner, savour the complex flavours of Southern cooking at Juban’s in Baton Rouge. If you are looking for a casual spot, stop by The Chimes for local beers and hearty Cajun fare. For one of the most eclectic hotel experiences in downtown Baton Rouge, stay at the historic Watermark Baton Rouge, a luxury hotel inside a former bank building.

Days Three and Four: New Orleans

Continue your golf adventure just outside New Orleans in Jefferson Parish at TPC Louisiana, a Pete Dye-designed masterpiece and home to the PGA’s Zurich Classic. Comparable to a private nature preserve, TPC offers a 7,425-yard, par-72 championship course that is carved out of the South Louisiana forest and utilises natural vegetation and water features inhabited by native alligators and numerous cypress trees.

After your round, head back into the city to experience Frenchmen Street, where brass bands, jazz clubs and dance halls create one of the most energetic live music districts in the world. The Blue Nile is home to countless top funk, blues, soul, and brass shows. Another one is The Spotted Cat, a quintessential jazz club of New Orleans. If you are looking to grab a bite with your drink, then head to The Maison for a packed schedule of live music, jazz brunches, a tasty Creole menu and an upscale drink menu, housed in a historic 19th-century building

For dinner, indulge in New Orleans’ famed dining scene. Try Cochon for rustic Cajun dishes or Herbsaint for refined Southern cuisine. The next day, play Bayou Oaks South, one of the oldest golf sites in the state, offering lush, expansive yards to practice your putt.

Conveniently located on the streetcar line, it is easy to pair a morning round with city exploration, including a ride on New Orleans’ iconic conveyance. Spend the afternoon enjoying the New Orleans Museum of Art to absorb history and art, or take a leisurely walk beneath the live oaks of City Park.

End the night on a musical note at New Orleans’ iconic home for jazz at Preservation Hall, before checking into the luxury and timeless Southern charm of The Roosevelt New Orleans.
