At Terminal 2, the CSMIA has set up over 30 checking counters for both foreign and domestic passengers. At Terminal 1, the CSMIA has set up over 8 registration desks and 6 testing booths were departing and arriving passengers can choose to take the RT-PCR test at the airport.
Between January and March 2021, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) handled approximately 50,91,730 passengers and over 49,160 flights across domestic and international destinations, keeping up with the momentum in passenger traffic resulting from trust in the airport’s safety measures.
Although the global aviation industry is still recovering from the effects of the pandemic, CSMIA has been working hard to keep travellers connected while also providing a safe haven for passengers through the implementation of various safety initiatives.
Between January and March 2021, the CSMIA handled over 5,21,570 international passengers on 7,759 flights, and approximately 45,70,150 domestic passengers on 41,407 flights. During this time, the airport also noted that Dubai had become the most popular international destination, with over 1,60,169 passengers passing through. Newark came in second with 54,406 passengers, followed by Male with 50,158 passengers.
Similarly, among domestic destinations, Delhi had the most passengers with 6,57,467, followed by Goa with 4,36,899, and Bengaluru with 3,09,168. In the first quarter of CY2021, CSMIA added new routes to international destinations such as Ras Al Khaimah and Batam, as well as domestic destinations such as Jharsuguda, Kishangarh, and Agra, among others.
In order to improve passenger safety and comfort, CSMIA installed RT-PCR test counters in the terminal on September 6, 2020, and by March 2021, the airport had completed over 3 lakh tests. Since its inception, the CSMIA has added new facilities and explored different options for accommodating and reducing the amount of time passengers spend waiting for reports.
Furthermore, CSMIA has gone a step further in ensuring passenger safety by enabling Mylab Discovery Solutions to set up the RT-PCR testing counter and process the sample in a timely manner. The additional service has been added for the convenience of arriving passengers and to include a quick update.
CSMIA has launched significant initiatives in the last year to provide travellers with a smooth transit experience while also improving safety and precautionary steps. To provide passengers with a touchless experience and reduce direct contact between passengers and airport staff, the airport introduced a QR code-based remotely check-in facility.
In addition, the airport has implemented measures such as installing glass partitions on all counters, strategically placing hand sanitizers, ensuring strict screening, social distancing, mandatory compliance with wearing PPEs, sanitization and disinfection procedures, and sanitization of cabs within the airport, to name a few.
