Singapore Tourism Board Boosts Recovery Initiatives with Travel Trade Partners

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) unveiled its plans to expand its offerings and appeal to Indian visitors in 2023 at SATTE, South Asia’s leading travel trade event in Noida. STB aims to capitalize on last year’s post-pandemic travel rebound and make the city-state a more desirable destination for Indian tourists.

Indian Government Lifts All Travel Restrictions to Singapore

As of February 13, 2023, 11 am, the Indian government has lifted all RTPCR requirements and COVID-19 restrictions for Indian travellers returning from Singapore. This latest development shall provide hassle-free travel for Indian visitors to Singapore and further accelerate the pace of travel from India.

Expanding Travel from India to Singapore

Since the easing of travel restrictions in April 2022, travel from India to Singapore has picked up. In 2022, India accounted for 686,000 out of 6.3 million global visitor arrivals, making it Singapore’s second-largest source market after Indonesia, which accounted for 1.1 million visitors. With 17 Indian cities having direct flight connectivity to Singapore, the city-state is in a strong position to tap into the burgeoning travel demand from across the country.

Singapore Tourism Board’s Vision for 2023 and Beyond

The STB has a vision of ‘Ramping up Pathways to Recovery, Together!’ for 2023 and the coming years. This includes positioning Singapore as a destination that offers rewarding travel experiences to Indian travellers by broadening its appeal to a wider Indian demographic, including young Indian travellers. Singapore is also being positioned as an aspirational destination for life milestones such as weddings and anniversaries. STB will also be sharpening its offerings in the family segment, meetings and incentive travel, and cruise tourism strongholds.

STB’s Presence at SATTE 2023

At SATTE 2023, 48 Singapore travel industry partners will be exhibiting at the Singapore Pavilion, making it Singapore’s biggest-ever presence at SATTE. According to GB Srithar, Regional Director, India, Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, India has long been one of Singapore’s largest tourism source markets and is only set to become even more important in 2023. He is excited about the hotly-anticipated tourism developments in Singapore and invites many more Indians with different passions, travel desires, and aspirations to enjoy Singapore’s diverse, vibrant, and reimagined offerings.

New Developments and Focus Areas

STB’s Singapore Pavilion showcases new attractions, initiatives, and focus areas that it is working on. Some of the upcoming tourism developments to be launched in 2023 include Sentosa’s multi-concept family development, Sensoryscape experiential park, and Mandai Wildlife Reserve’s Bird Paradise. These new developments are expected to further anchor Singapore’s destination attractiveness to travellers from all across India.

Trade Outreach Activities in India

STB has lined up a series of trade outreach activities across India to promote Singapore as a tourism destination. This includes a B2B networking platform in Chennai on February 13, as well as two wedding networking engagements with 35 top wedding planners in partnership with WeddingSutra on February 7 and 8 in Mumbai and Delhi respectively.

Over the past few decades, Singapore has established itself as a global business and leisure hub, offering visitors a mix of eclectic experiences. Visitors can indulge in live sports, arts, entertainment, or a wildlife safari, or engage in thrill-seeking adventure exploits. Singapore is also emerging as a wellness destination, with a range of emotional and physical well-being experiences on offer. Additionally, Singapore is pioneering sustainable tourism, with its ‘City in Nature’ vision being a key pillar of the Singapore Green Plan.
