Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, spoke today in New Delhi at the National Conference on Tourist Police Scheme. Both Shripad Yesso Naik, the MoS for Tourism, and Shri G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Tourism, attended the occasion.
This seminar was organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
During the conference, other senior MHA, MoT, and BPR&D staff members including Shri Arvind Singh, Secretary (Tourism), Shri Balaji Srivastava, Director General (BPR&D, MHA), Joint Secretary (Foreigners division), State Tourism Secretaries of Rajasthan, Kerala, Goa, and Meghalaya, DGPs/IGPs of States/UTs, and State Tourism Secretaries were also present.
The BPR&D report on the “Tourist Police Scheme” was discussed, and BPR&D also shared the report’s conclusions and recommendations.
In order to provide greater protection for tourists, Shri Birla stated that it is essential to provide the tourist police with proper training for effective security and that these police officers should be familiar with a variety of languages and modern technologies.
In reference to India hosting the upcoming G20 summit, Shri Birla stated that the G20 Heads of State, leaders, and officials will travel to the nation’s top tourism attractions.
We will have the chance to enhance policing and security in busy tourist locations thanks to this event. According to Shri Birla, a country’s visitor inflow improves when law and order are better maintained. As a result, it’s essential to train the police in this area.
According to Shri G Kishan Reddy, every traveller can find something to enjoy in India, from steep mountains to swiftly running rivers, rolling valleys, and sand dunes.
India provides a wide variety of exciting tourist destinations, stunning natural scenery, and dynamic culture that are unmatched worldwide. In the past 75 years, as we commemorate the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, India has grown to be associated with tourism, spirituality, change, culture, and variety.
Celebrate record-breaking growth that has elevated India’s economy to the fifth largest in the world with tremendous pride.
So, to ward off all these issues, there is an urgent need to put in place proper systems. He added that police should be trained to secure the active participation of Civil Societies, and NGOs in tourist places.
According to Shri Reddy, the fact that India will also hold the G20 presidency starting in December 2022 for a year presents a fantastic chance to market India’s tourism-related goods.
We can give them the best experiences and present them with India so they may serve as ambassadors for Indian tourism in their respective nations.
Shri Shripad Yesso Naik emphasised that the tourism sector supports around 14.87% of total direct and indirect employment, contributes approximately 5.02% of India’s GDP, and generated foreign exchange earnings of Rs. 2.12 lakh crore (USD 30 billion) for the Indian economy in 2019.
Though we have not yet reached its full potential, tourism in India has greatly boosted the country’s economy, making it the fifth largest in the world.
According to Shri Naik, whether a visitor is domestic or international, safety and security are their top priorities. The global and local tourism industries are both impacted and affected by security-related challenges.
In his closing remarks, Shri Arvind Singh, Secretary of Tourism, stated that increasing the safety and security of tourists will help India’s worldwide tourism indices and make India a more desirable destination.
The introduction of this kind of uniform tourist police scheme across the states and UTs would lead to safer tourism, he continued, and this meeting is another step in the process of improving traveller confidence.
