Singapore Tourism Board Appoints Markus Tan as Regional Director
In a strategic move set to reshape the tourism landscape, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has named Mr Markus Tan as the Regional Director for India, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa (IMESA). Effective January 1, 2024, this appointment marks a pivotal moment for STB’s initiatives in promoting both Leisure and Business Travel and meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (BTMICE) across the IMESA region.
Driving Initiatives in the Heart of Mumbai
In his new role, based in Mumbai, Mr Tan is set to spearhead STB’s diverse initiatives. From travel promotions to public relations and marketing strategies, he will be pivotal in driving developmental efforts to enhance Singapore’s position as a premier travel and business destination.
A Seasoned STB Veteran
Markus Tan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having dedicated 18 years to STB in various pivotal capacities. Before assuming his current role, he served as the Director for the World Expo, overseeing the Singapore Pavilion at Osaka World Expo 2025. His international experience spans Tokyo, Japan, where he served as the Regional Director for North Asia, and Guangzhou, China, where he held the position of Area Director, Southern China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Pioneering Contributions in Asia
During his tenure in Tokyo, Mr. Tan played a crucial role in showcasing Singapore as an exciting destination, leaving a lasting impact beyond Japan and Korea. His impactful role in Guangzhou significantly transformed China and North Asia into key pillars of Singapore’s global tourism success.
Expertise in the BTMICE Market
Mr. Tan’s unique strengths lie in his deep understanding of the BTMICE market. Having held key positions like Deputy Director, of BTMICE Planning & Marketing, he has been instrumental in developing strategies for Singapore’s BTMICE industry growth. His efforts have strengthened Singapore’s position as a global business and MICE destination.
Handover of Leadership
Markus Tan takes over from Mr. GB Srithar, the current Regional Director. Commenting on the leadership handover, Mr. Srithar expressed his confidence in Tan, saying, “I am thrilled to pass on the baton to Markus to lead Singapore’s tourism business across the IMESA region.” He emphasized the tremendous growth of India as a global powerhouse, foreseeing opportunities in its outbound tourism market.
