One of the biggest international travel expos, World Travel Market 2022 (WTM), was held in London from November 7–9. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India will be there. The Future of Travel Starts Now is the exhibition’s theme for this year. India’s attendance at WTM is important for accelerating the return of inbound tourism to pre-pandemic levels.

Twenty people are gathered around the Indian Pavilion and the Ministry of Tourism has reserved a space of 650 square metres to participate in the exhibition. In the presence of the tourism ministers of Kerala, Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu, Mr. Arvind Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, and Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK, officially inaugurated the Indian Pavilion. Ribbon cutting, lamp lighting, Ganesh Vandana, welcome remarks from the secretary of the ministry of tourism, and remarks from the high commissioner of India to the UK marked the opening of the India Pavilion.

The Indian delegation and attendees visited the booths of the various participating states and other stakeholders after the inauguration.

Incredible India organised a variety of cultural performances, yoga sessions, Heena performances, and of course Bollywood dance performances throughout the day. The Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism attended the sessions on “Preparing for the Next Crisis: Reaching for Long-Term Sustainability” and “Growing Consumer Demand for Responsible Tourism” at the WTM venue.

Later, officials from ABTA met with Mr. Arvind Singh, Secretary, and Mr. Rakesh Kumar Verma, Additional Secretary, of the Ministry of Tourism to discuss promoting travel between the two nations. Mr. Rakesh Kumar Verma met with representatives from the travel industry and the media and briefed them on the steps the Ministry of Tourism had taken to promote tourism after the pandemic.

The India Evening at Copper Chimney in West Field Mall was one of the highlights of India’s participation in WTM on the first day. Members of the travel industry from India, the UK, and the Indian diaspora were invited to the India Evening. Several tourism secretaries and ministers from various state governments who were attending WTM 2022 were present in India on November 7, 2022.

In his opening remarks at the India Evening, Shri Arvind Singh, Secretary, Government of India’s Ministry of Tourism, emphasised the ministry’s priorities and goal of showcasing the various tourism products and services, such as Medical Value Travel and Wellness, opulent trains, and the range of tourism products, to the international business community.
