35th ANNUAL IATO CONVENTION in Kolkata

35th ANNUAL IATO CONVENTION: After 17 years, the Indian Association of Tour Operators is holding its 35th Annual Convention in Kolkata. The Inauguration will be held on Thursday, the 12th of September at 4.30 pm, in the Biswa Bangla Convention Cente, which is the largest and best in South Asia. The Convention will run from 12th to 14th September, and the theme for the discussion is “Is Tourism Thriving? Challenges and Opportunities”.

More than 1000 key members of the travel industry, each of them a significant influencer and opinion-leader, will participate in this convention. The delegates have already flagged important issues such as rationalization of GST and taxes, air entry issues and export industry status.

The convention will benefit from the patronage and participant of key dignitaries in the tourism sector, including Hon’ble Ministers. West Bengal is the host state. Besides the active support of the Government of West Bengal, the Ministry of Tourism, GoI as well as as13 other states and Union Territories will participate and be visible.

There are certain very unique and interesting features around the 35th ANNUAL IATO CONVENTION this year. The IATO, in their mission to promote tourism in India, has this year chosen to highlight this State and city. In fact, the logo and theme for this year’s convention feature Durga Puja, which is promoted as “the world’s greatest public festival”. On the theme of Durga Puja, there will also be a live demonstration of idol-making. From 6 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, 14th September, more than 400 delegates will participate in the IATO Run for Responsible Tourism. The route runs for 5 km. through the heart of Kolkata and the Maidan, to show delegates the rich heritage of this city.

There will also be a cultural performance highlighting Bengal’s folk and modern tradition in music on the 12th September evening and a river cruise on the evening of Saturday, 14th September. West Bengal Tourism is also using this opportunity to take delegates on FAM Trips around the State, to highlight the immense tourism potential of lesser-known sites.

This convention should provide win-win outcomes, with all delegates from across the country, as well as West Bengal Tourism, benefitting from increased awareness and growth of the business.
