On May 4, 2021, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, attended the meeting of the G20 Tourism Ministers held in Italy.
The Minister congratulated the Minister of Tourism and the Italian Government, Massimo Garavaglia, for holding the meeting of the G20 tourism ministers in these difficult times and also thanked him for having bring together the Member States for dialog to work to protect tourist enterprises, jobs and initiatives to develop policy guidelines in support of sustainable and resilient rehabilitation of work.
Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Patel stated that the tourism industry was the most heavily affected by COVID-19 and that its impact on jobs, businesses, community and the economy as a whole was heavily affected.
In setting up guidelines on the seven key inter-related policies for safe mobility, crisis management, resilience, inclusiveness, green transformation, Digital transition, investment and infrastructure, the Italian G20 Presidency appreciated and supported the focus on recovery and ensuring new opportunities for people, the planet and the prosperity.
It was a further contribution to the policy area ‘Green Transformation,’ to support the sustainable tourism industry, that India supported in the principles for the transition to a green tourism and tourism economy put up by UnWTO.
Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Patel also emphasized the efforts taken by the Ministry of Tourism to develop community tourism and rural tourism by incorporating local people in job possibilities and revenue generation through sustainable and accountable tourism.
The goal of the Ministry’s would be to promote beautiful locations, such as nature, eco-tourism, wildlife, spa, mountaineering and trekking, among other things, following COVID. India also has a strong and dynamic traditional drug system for holistic cure.
India wants to offer the globe serenity and tranquility, health and other traditional medical and the spiritual environment after COVID-19, through Yoga, Ayurveda. The Minister stated his optimism that the tourism industry will recover completely from the impact of the COVID 19 disruption and, with the implementation of vaccination programs across countries, will become stronger after COVID.
The Minister ended with appreciation to the Italian presidency of the G20 for its leadership and India will continue to assist and work with the G20 presidency in 2022.
