With nearly 25 years of hospitality experience, Mr. Samrat Chakraborty, General Manager of Laa Montre Collection of Hotels & Resorts, brings deep expertise in hotel operations, guest experience, and hospitality management. As Laa Montre establishes its presence in Kharagpur, West Bengal, the property aims to cater to the evolving needs of corporate travellers, families, leisure guests and the local community through an integrated offering of accommodation, dining, wellness, leisure and event facilities.
In this exclusive email interview, Mr. Samrat Chakraborty discusses the factors driving Laa Montre’s entry into Kharagpur, changing guest expectations, the growing potential of emerging hospitality destinations in Eastern India, and the brand’s vision for sustainable growth and expansion over the coming years.
Laa Montre has chosen Kharagpur as an important market for its regional presence. What factors influenced the decision to launch the property in Kharagpur, and what potential do you see in the city’s evolving business and leisure travel market?
We chose Kharagpur because of its strong connectivity, growing industrial and business ecosystem, and the presence of institutions like IIT Kharagpur. We see good potential in both corporate and leisure travel, with opportunities from business visitors, institutional guests, social events and weekend travellers. Laa Montre aims to be a trusted hospitality partner as Kharagpur continues to grow.
With around 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, you have witnessed significant changes in guest expectations. How are these changing preferences reflected in Laa Montre’s approach to service and guest experiences?
Over the years, guest expectations have evolved from simply seeking comfort to looking for personalised, seamless and memorable experiences. At Laa Montre, we focus on warm hospitality, personalised service, quality food and modern comforts, while ensuring that every guest feels valued and at home.
Laa Montre brings together accommodation, dining, wellness, leisure and event facilities. How do you envision the property positioning itself as a hospitality destination for corporate travellers, families, leisure guests and the local community?
Laa Montre is designed as a complete hospitality destination where guests can stay, dine, relax and celebrate under one roof. We aim to cater to corporate travellers, families, leisure guests and the local community through comfortable accommodation, quality dining, wellness and leisure facilities, and well-equipped event spaces—all supported by warm and personalised hospitality.
Personalised service is an important part of Laa Montre’s hospitality philosophy. What are some of the experiences or service elements that you believe will set the Kharagpur property apart for guests?
For us, personalised service means understanding our guests and going the extra mile to make them feel comfortable and valued. At Laa Montre, we focus on personalised dining, attentive service, prompt guest assistance, and customised experiences tailored to individual preferences. Our warm hospitality, special occasion arrangements, and proactive service aim to make every guest feel valued and create memorable stays.
Eastern India is witnessing growing opportunities in emerging hospitality destinations. What role do you see Laa Montre playing in this evolving hospitality landscape, and what opportunities do you see for the brand in the region?
Eastern India has significant potential as new business and leisure destinations continue to grow. We see Laa Montre contributing by bringing quality hospitality, personalised service and a complete guest experience to emerging markets. Kharagpur’s growing industrial, corporate, and railway connectivity creates strong opportunities for hospitality. Laa Montre aims to cater to corporate travellers, business meetings, weddings, and leisure guests. With our focus on quality service and diverse dining experiences, we see opportunities to expand into emerging destinations across Eastern India and build a trusted regional hospitality brand.
Looking ahead, what is your vision for Laa Montre over the next two to three years? Can we expect the brand to expand into other destinations across Eastern India and beyond?
Over the next two to three years, our vision is to strengthen Laa Montre as a trusted hospitality brand, with a strong focus on service quality and guest experience. We are certainly exploring opportunities in other destinations across Eastern India and beyond, with expansion driven by the right locations and sustainable growth.
