In a significant move towards aiding communities in need, Qatar Airways, the national airline of the State of Qatar, has announced the renewal of its partnership with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for another two years, extending from 2024 through 2025. This partnership, marked by a signing ceremony attended by key stakeholders, signifies a continued commitment to providing humanitarian relief to vulnerable refugees and internally displaced persons globally.

Commitment to Humanitarian Relief

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer expressed pride in the accomplishments achieved through their collaboration with UNHCR over the past four years. This partnership has been instrumental in supporting displaced communities worldwide, showcasing Qatar Airways’ dedication to fulfilling its humanitarian role.

Strategic Alliance for Global Impact

The strategic partnership between Qatar Airways and UNHCR holds immense significance in the realm of humanitarian aid. Through this alliance, Qatar Airways commits to providing an additional 400 tonnes of free tonnage to UNHCR, facilitating the delivery of crucial aid supplies to those most in need. This support includes essential items such as water, medical care, and hygiene materials, crucial for the well-being and safety of refugees, internally displaced persons, and host community members.

Leveraging Operational Excellence for Humanitarian Goals

Qatar Airways leverages its operational excellence and extensive network to facilitate the transportation of relief items. The airline’s hub-and-spoke network out of Hamad International Airport, renowned as the ‘World’s Best Airport’ at the Skytrax Airport Awards, plays a pivotal role in the seamless transfer of humanitarian aid. Additionally, Qatar Airways’ cargo division, equipped with a robust fleet of 28 freighters and access to over 200 aircraft, ensures swift and efficient delivery to a network of 70 freighter destinations and over 170 belly-hold destinations worldwide.

The renewal of the partnership between Qatar Airways and UNHCR underscores a shared commitment to global welfare. Engr. Ahmed Mohsen, UNHCR’s Representative to the State of Qatar expressed his appreciation for the strategic humanitarian partnership with Qatar Airways and stated: “We highly appreciate this vital partnership and are proud to renew it for two additional years, which reflects Qatar Airways’ solid commitment towards supporting our humanitarian efforts, in terms of delivering essential relief items to those most in need.”

In addition, he praised Qatar Airways’s dedication over the past years, and said: “Since establishing our partnership with Qatar Airways in May 2020, amid a critical time during the emergence of Covid-19, Qatar Airways has lent us a helping hand to support refugees and displaced communities with vital relief items and medical supplies.”
