The overall value of the order with GE exceeds US$6.8 billion list price, comprising spare engines, a new order for GE90-115B engines, and a TrueChoiceTM services agreement to cover engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said“With our status as the world’s largest airfreight carrier, Qatar Airways has ambitious plans for the future of its cargo operations.

“As operators of the Boeing 777 family, including the global launch customer of Boeing’s 777-8 Freighter aircraft, we are delighted to have GE as our partners and these contracts for GE engines further cement the strong relationship between Qatar Airways and GE.

“We are confident that Qatar Airways’ focus to drive towards a sustainable future will be very much supported by the efficiency of the GE9X engines.”

“GE Aviation has a great history and proven track record of powering freighter-dedicated aircraft,” said GE Aviation CEO John Slattery“We are proud to continue building our relationship with Qatar Airways and play a significant role in their growth with this order of Boeing 777-8 Freighter and 777 Freighter aircraft.”

GE9X engies are sustainable

The GE9X engine contributes to GE Aviation’s commitment to a more sustainable aviation sector by using the latest generations of heat-resistant Ceramic Matrix Composites materials, additively built parts, and lean-burn combustion, all of which aid in fuel efficiency.

It is the most powerful and fuel-efficient turbofan in the world. The GE9X produces the least NOx in its class[ii] and is the quietest GE engine ever made[iii]. Both the GE9X and GE90, like other GE commercial engines, can run on any authorized Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The GE9X incorporates a portfolio of GE-exclusive propulsion technologies, resulting in up to a 10% reduction in specific fuel consumption over the engine it replaces. It builds on the legacy of the groundbreaking GE90 engine, providing an unrivaled combination of power and efficiency in the freighter market.

For decades, GE Aviation has powered critical cargo operations around the world, including Boeing’s dedicated freighter line. This tradition is carried on by Boeing’s newest aircraft, the 777-8 Freighter, which is powered only by the GE9X engine.

Boeing’s 777-300ER, 777-200LR, and 777 Freighter aircraft all use the GE90 engine family as their sole propulsion. The GE90 engine has amassed more than 108 million flight hours since its introduction in 1995 and has proven to be one of the most reliable in the industry, with a dispatch reliability rating of 99.98 percent.

The GE9X engine program includes IHI Corporation, Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Aero Boosters, and MTU Aero Engines AG.
