From marine conservation and waste collection initiatives to cancer awareness campaigns and responsible hospitality practices, Hotel La Palma continues to champion a more sustainable future for Capri and beyond.
Capri, Italy – Hotel La Palma, Capri’s oldest and most iconic hotel and a distinguished member of Oetker Hotels, continues to place sustainability and social responsibility at the heart of its operations. Blending timeless Italian elegance with a forward-thinking approach to luxury hospitality, the hotel remains deeply committed to supporting environmental preservation, community wellbeing, and meaningful social causes through a series of impactful initiatives and partnerships.
For the 2026 season, Hotel La Palma has further strengthened its sustainability strategy by combining internationally recognised environmental programmes with locally driven projects that directly benefit the island of Capri and its residents. These initiatives reflect the hotel’s belief that true luxury extends beyond exceptional guest experiences and should generate lasting positive impact for both people and planet.
Protecting the Sea and Preserving Capri’s Natural Beauty
Among the hotel’s key sustainability partnerships is its collaboration with Ogyre, the pioneering social enterprise dedicated to marine conservation. Through this initiative, local fishermen are incentivised to recover marine litter during their daily fishing activities, helping remove waste from the sea while supporting coastal communities.
Thanks to this partnership, by the end of 2027, 1.350 kilograms of plastic waste will be collected from the Mediterranean Sea, contributing to the protection of fragile marine ecosystems and raising awareness about the importance of ocean preservation. Through Ogyre’s blockchain-based platform, every stage of the collection process is tracked and verified, ensuring full transparency and measurable environmental impact.
In September, Hotel La Palma organised a clean-up initiative in collaboration with Capri Servizi along Via Krupp, one of Capri’s most iconic pathways connecting the town centre to Marina Piccola. The hotel’s team members enthusiastically participated in collecting and removing litter along the route, helping preserve this historic and scenic area of the island. Beyond the immediate environmental benefits, the project highlighted the importance of collective action in protecting the island’s natural heritage for future generations.
Supporting Circular Economy and Responsible Tourism
The hotel’s commitment to reducing waste and encouraging mindful consumption is further exemplified through its partnership with Giving Bag. Available in guest rooms, Giving Bags allow visitors to donate gently used clothing, books, and accessories at the end of their stay. These items are then redistributed through charitable organisations, extending their lifecycle and supporting people in need.
In parallel, Hotel La Palma remains committed to maintaining the highest sustainability standards through its Green Globe Certification, one of the most respected international certifications in sustainable tourism. The certification recognises the hotel’s efforts across energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, responsible sourcing, and community engagement, reinforcing its dedication to responsible luxury hospitality.
Promoting Health, Awareness, and Community Engagement
Beyond environmental initiatives, Hotel La Palma continues to support causes that foster social wellbeing and health awareness.
This year, the hotel proudly hosted a dedicated Cancer Initiative. As part of this commitment, Hotel La Palma launched a special wellbeing programme for Capri residents affected by cancer, offering them a complimentary treatment at La Palma Spa. The initiative was widely promoted across the island to ensure that those who could benefit from it were informed and encouraged to participate.
Further reinforcing this commitment, Hotel La Palma actively participates in Pink October, the international breast cancer awareness campaign. Throughout the month of October, the hotel organises a dedicated fundraising initiative in support of AIRC (Fondazione AIRC per la Ricerca sul Cancro), one of Italy’s leading organisations funding cancer research. As part of these efforts, Hotel La Palma has made its signature vanity pouch available for purchase. By purchasing this exclusive pouch for €70, €57.37, corresponding to the full net amount proceeds excluding VAT, will be donated to Fondazione AIRC in support of cancer research.
Promoting Local Culture and Heritage
Hotel La Palma proudly supported Musei e Parchi Archeologici di Capri in the realization of a press tour dedicated to the opening of the exhibition Il Mito di Capri and the bicentenary of the rediscovery of the Blue Grotto.
Through this collaboration, the hotel reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding and promoting the cultural heritage of Capri, supporting initiatives that preserve the island’s history and strength in the connection between local heritage and contemporary tourism.
The project also resonates with Hotel La Palma’s own history: according to historical sources, the 1826 expedition that led to the rediscovery of the Blue Grotto departed from the former Locanda Pagano, the site where Hotel La Palma stands today, with the involvement of then-owner Giuseppe Pagano.
A Holistic Vision of Responsible LuxuryTogether, these environmental, social, and community-focused initiatives represent Hotel La Palma’s evolving vision of luxury hospitality, one rooted in authenticity, purpose, and long-term responsibility. By embracing sustainable practices, supporting local partnerships, and championing meaningful causes, the hotel continues to demonstrate that exceptional hospitality can be a powerful force for positive change.
