1. What are the further insights of hoteliers on COVID-19 recovery?
Ans.1 Kudos to Travel Mail for keeping the media flag flying! Yes, we are living through an unprecedented crisis in world history. It has become the severest test of survival and endurance for everyone, regardless of race, geography, religion or gender. Needless to say, the lockdown of business establishments is an immense economic crisis. I am sure the hotel industry, with adequate assistance of the government, will be able to face up to this challenge in the months to come.

2. How to protect the hotel business during the COVID-19 outbreak?
Ans.2. As professional hoteliers, we are completely under lockdown and following every order and guideline being issued by the Central, State and local governments. It is time for collection action and ensuring that we help the governments achieve their objective of saving lives, staying at home and social distancing.

3. What is your future strategy to overcome COVID-19?
Ans.3. We, as individuals or as an industry, are not equipped to be strategising nor planning about the outcomes in the future. Those are all issues which the government has to work on and provide the guidelines. Therefore, we should abstain from discussing hypothetical scenarios, instead, the focus should be on adhering to the tasks on hand: Help all citizenry to stay at home, follow social distancing and wherever medical aid is required, it should be notified to the government to take action.

4. What are the future preventive health measures taken by the hoteliers?
Ans.4. As a nation today we are working to save human lives, every life has become important. Livelihoods have suffered as a process. But as the Hon’ble Prime Minister said, ‘Jaan hai to Jahan hai’.

5. How has the cancellation/ change in bookings impacted the hotel industry?
Ans.5. Of course, the lockdown of business establishments is also a time for introspection and looking into completing the projects on hand, as best as we can. We have all the time in the world now to finish these pending jobs.

6. What are the expectations of hoteliers from the government?
Ans.6. At this stage of the lockdown, it would not be correct to raise issues of expectations nor plan for a hypothetical future. For now, the ‘new normal’ in 2020 will take everyone back to the drawing board, so to say. Of course, we are and will remain optimistic about the future, even though there will be surprises and hurdles at every stage.

7. Does the hotel industry plan to offer’s something Lucurative to its customer’s after this pandemic is over? What is the advice from the hospitality industry about the safety and security of all tourists, domestic as well as international?
Ans.7. Whatever were the achievements of the past may not be applicable now in 2020 as travel, tourism, hotels, livelihoods will all be transformed through the current socio-medical policies of social distancing and safety issues. One cannot even fathom the depth of these changes and transformations at this stage.

8. What are the major steps to be taken by the management for the publicity and advertisement of the property along with advice to the traveller’s post-COVID-19?
Ans.8. The hotel industry is completely integrated and inter-connected with airlines, roadways, railways and the food-and-beverages industries spread across the world. It will be long before each link along this vast chain is able to click back together. We will have to be patient and compassionate with our stakeholders, especially our employees, and all those indirectly benefitting from travel and tourism.

9. In this hour of crisis, what you think the industry should focus on?
Ans.9. As professionals, privileged to be part of the hotel industry, we have to remain focussed on helping the government achieve its objectives: ensure stay at home and social distancing policies are adhered to. There may be opportunities for civil society to help those in distress. Our commitment is towards saving human lives, as per the guidelines of the government. As and when the medical situation improves, there will be enough time and opportunity to tackle the ‘new normal’ and build for the future once again.
