CSMIA witnesses boost in passenger footfalls after the second wave of the pandemic

CSMIA serves as a gateway to 54 local and 21 international destinations, for travellers flying from Mumbai,

As the country begins to recover from the effects of the epidemic this year, passenger traffic at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) increased by almost 60% in June 2021 compared to May 2021.

Throughout the pandemic, the airport has worked relentlessly to maintain continuous connectivity for travellers while also providing a safe sanctuary for its passengers and employees. The growth in passenger traffic is a testament to the CSMIA’s work in this area, as well as passenger confidence in the airport’s safety programmes and protocols.

Between January and June 2021, CSMIA welcomed 72,61,158 passengers on 77,797 flights to domestic and international destinations. The airport has served about 64,87,066 domestic passengers on 63,992 flights and over 7,74,092 foreign passengers on 13,805 ATMs throughout this time.

Dubai emerged as the most popular foreign destination, with over 2,13,770 passengers passing through CSMIA on their way to and from the airport.

Newark, with nearly 88,010 passengers, and Heathrow, with 75,470 passengers, came in second and third, respectively. Similarly, among internal destinations, Delhi had the most passengers, with nearly 9,46,890, followed by Goa with 5,42,350, and Bengaluru with 4,32,180, respectively.

Following the outbreak of the second wave of the pandemic in the country, the airport saw a 60 per cent increase in passenger traffic in June 2021 when compared to May 2021.

New routes were also added to CSMIA, including local destinations such as Dharbhanga, Adampur, and Kalaburagi, as well as international destinations such as Batam, Armenia, Miami, and Houston, to name a few.

Despite the fact that passenger travel is rapidly rising, most Indian states and overseas countries demand a negative RT-PCR certificate. To make passenger travel more convenient, the CSMIA has put up over 30 testing facilities at Terminal 2 for both international and local travellers.

CSMIA has introduced additional facilities and explored numerous avenues to accommodate and reduce stay time for passengers awaiting reports since its inception in September 2020. For travellers who need a faster response, CSMIA offers an expedited test that provides a timely and reliable diagnostic in just 13 minutes.

Furthermore, CSMIA has gone a step further in ensuring passenger safety by allowing Mylab Discovery Solutions to set up the RT-PCR testing counter and process the sample in a timely manner.

The new service has been added for the convenience of arriving guests and to provide a quick report. The RT-PCR test facility at CSMIA, which is available to both arriving and departing passengers, is a godsend for travellers concerned about cross-border quarantine restrictions.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, CSMIA has adopted a number of SOPs, including preventive measures mandated by health and government agencies to ensure the safety of passengers and airport employees.

CSMIA anticipates a stable passenger flow in the future, given the ease with which other states’ restrictions can be lifted and passenger confidence in the airport’s safety procedures.

The airport is working together with its stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and government authorities to develop and disseminate required policies and processes to ensure the safety of passengers and employees at the airport. CSMIA tries to deliver the greatest services and facilities to its passengers in order to provide a flawless and memorable journey.
