Brand New Norwegian Viva Introduced by Norwegian Cruise Line

Launching June 2023, Norwegian Viva to Homeport in Four Marquee Mediterranean Destinations: Lisbon, Portugal; Venice (Trieste) and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy; and Athens (Piraeus), Greece

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the world’s leading cruise line, revealed Norwegian Viva, the first ship in its all-new Prima Class, today.

Norwegian Viva will begin sailing remarkable Mediterranean itineraries in June 2023, homeporting in key Southern European port cities such as Lisbon, Portugal; Venice (Trieste) and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy; and Athens (Piraeus), Greece, providing guests with elevated experiences including more wide-open spaces, thoughtful and stunning design, and exceptional service.

She will next sail the Southern Caribbean for her Winter Season 2023-2024, delivering warm-weather escapes from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Norwegian Viva, which will debut at 965 feet long, 142,500 gross tonnes, and seat 3,219 people in double occupancy, will be built by famed Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri in Marghera, Italy, and will mirror the luxury design and construction of her record-breaking sister ship Norwegian Prima.

The most spacious accommodations, featuring the brands’ biggest interior, oceanview, and balcony category cabins, will let travellers enjoy every second of their voyage.

The world-class ship will not only have the highest staffing levels and space ratio of any new cruise ship in the contemporary and premium cruise categories, as well as the widest range of suite categories at sea, but it will also feature a reimagined The Haven by Norwegian, NCL’s ultra-premium keycard-only access ship-within-a-ship concept.

The Haven’s public rooms and 107 suites will have an expansive sundeck, a breathtaking infinity pool overlooking the ship’s wake, and an outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room, all designed by Piero Lissoni, one of Italy’s most known designers.

The Prima Class’s diverse range of recreational activities makes a triumphant return on Norwegian Viva, with only-available-on-Prima-Class experiences such as The Rush and The Drop, the world’s fastest freefall drop dry slides at sea, and the Viva Speedway, the world’s largest three-level racetrack at sea.

Ocean Boulevard, a 44,000-square-foot outdoor walkway that wraps around the entire ship; Indulge Food Hall, with 11 different restaurants; The Concourse, with an outdoor sculpture garden; Infinity Beach, with expansive pool decks and infinity style pools; and Oceanwalk, with glass bridges above water.

“Norwegian Viva sets the standard in the premium segment,” said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. “It demonstrates our commitment to pushing boundaries in four main areas: wide open space, service that puts guests first, thoughtful design, and experiences beyond expectation.”

With this brand-new class of ships created just for our passengers, we’ve taken everything they enjoy to the next level.”

The hull art of Norwegian Viva was created by Manuel Di Rita, widely known as “Peeta,” an Italian graffiti and sculpture artist who previously drew the outstanding hull design on Norwegian Prima.

World-class architects who helped design Norwegian Prima including Rockwell Group, SMC Design and Miami-based Studio Dado, also have returned to influence the aesthetic of various restaurants, staterooms and public areas.

“Norwegian Viva, the second of six Prima Class vessels being built with us, reinforces the great collaboration between Norwegian Cruise Line and Fincantieri,” said Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager Merchant Ships Division at Fincantieri. “We were extremely satisfied that Norwegian Prima, the first of the new class, earned record-breaking bookings and we are excited to see how Norwegian Viva will live up to her sister ship. As we proved our resilience during these challenging times, this announcement represents another testament to Fincantieri´s global leadership role in the cruise sector.”

Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, the first two Prima Class ships, will be equipped with cutting-edge alternative technologies, such as a NOx reduction system (SCR), to lessen the ship’s total environmental effect.

SCR catalysts filter out up to 98 per cent of sulphur oxides and up to 90 per cent of nitrogen oxides, guaranteeing Tier III NOx compliance. They will also have an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS), an Advanced Effluent Treatment System (AWTS) to treat and clean all wastewater to satisfy strict international requirements, and Cold Ironing capabilities to link to onshore power networks to minimise emissions even more when in port.
