The Ministry of Railways has entrusted Rahul Himalian with the additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) following the resignation of Sanjay Kumar Jain from the post.
Currently serving as Director (Tourism & Marketing) at IRCTC, Himalian will assume the additional charge of CMD from July 20, 2026, and will continue to oversee his existing responsibilities while leading the organisation’s overall operations and strategic direction.
A senior officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) from the 1999 batch, Rahul Himalian brings more than 26 years of experience in the Indian Railways and IRCTC. Throughout his career, he has been associated with several key initiatives aimed at enhancing customer experience and strengthening the corporation’s tourism, catering and digital services.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Railways, Himalian has been serving as a whole-time functional director on the Board of IRCTC since February 16, 2024. As Director (Tourism & Marketing), he has been providing strategic leadership across several critical divisions, including Tourism, Information Technology, Human Resource Development, Infrastructure, Administration and Rajbhasha.
Academically, Himalian has an outstanding record. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from NIT Hamirpur, where he was awarded the Gold Medal, and later completed his post-graduation in Engineering from IIT Delhi, securing a perfect CGPA of 10.00. He was also honoured with the prestigious President’s Gold Medal as the Best All-Round Student.
His appointment comes at a significant time for IRCTC as the Navratna public sector enterprise continues to expand its tourism offerings, strengthen digital platforms, and enhance passenger-centric services. With extensive experience in railway operations, tourism and marketing, Himalian is expected to play a key role in driving IRCTC’s growth strategy while reinforcing its position as India’s leading rail travel, hospitality and tourism services provider.
