Korea Tourism Organization Appoints New Director for India: Myong kil Yun

Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has recently announced the appointment of its new Director for the Indian market, Mr Myong kil Yun. As of February 15, 2023, Mr Yun will assume the role of Director in KTO’s India office, located in Gurugram. His mandate is to oversee promotional and marketing activities in India and its neighbouring countries for the next three years.

Mr Myong Kil Yun Background and Expertise

Mr Yun holds a Master’s degree in International Tourism Policy and has been with KTO since 2004. This will be his second stint in the Indian market, having previously served as the office’s Deputy Director from 2013 to 2016. With over a decade of experience in the travel and tourism industry and a deep understanding of the Indian market, Mr Yun is well-suited for his new role.

Plans for the India Market

In his statement, Mr Yun expressed his excitement at returning to India and his commitment to working closely with trade partners and media in the region to promote South Korea as a premium overseas destination for Indian travellers. He also noted that 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Korea-India diplomatic relations, making this an opportune time to reinforce the relationship between the two countries.

KTO’s India office plans to focus on specific segments, including luxury travel, K-pop and K-drama fans, students visiting Korea for educational tours, and special interest groups. The goal is to welcome 150,000 Indian travellers in 2023 and 500,000 by 2026. By targeting these segments, KTO aims to position South Korea as an attractive and relevant destination for Indian travellers.
