TOURISM MALAYSIA RETURNS TO WOO THE MIDDLE EASTERN MARKET AT ATM 2022

In 2019, Malaysia welcomed 397,726 tourists from the MENA area, with Saudi Arabia leading the way with 121,444 visitors.

32 Malaysian organisations are taking part in ATM.

This year, two million foreign tourists are expected, with tourism earnings of RM8.6 billion (AED7.5 billion) predicted in 2022.

Tourism Malaysia, the promotion board under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia, is returning to the Arabian Travel Market with its tourism trade partners to promote Malaysia to the Middle Eastern market.

Tourism Malaysia will highlight its reputation as a safe travel destination while showcasing the latest attractions and places for shopping, family fun, eco-adventure, honeymoons, and luxury holidays.

The prominent annual event will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre from May 9 to 12. The Honourable Minister Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia, is leading the Malaysian delegation this year. The Malaysia Pavilion comprises 64 representatives from 32 organisations that are keen to meet major Middle Eastern industry customers.

On April 1, 2022, Malaysia reopened its borders to foreign tourism. “It was undoubtedly a big milestone for our tourist business. We welcome more foreign guests, both first-time and returning ones, to further strengthen our economy,” Dato’ Sri Nancy remarked. We are optimistic that now that our borders are fully open, we will see a substantial increase in tourism numbers, which will help our economy recover. This year, we expect two million foreign tourists to arrive, bringing in Malaysia over RM8.6 billion (AED7.5 billion) in revenue.”

Arrivals from West Asia and North Africa accounted for 30% of all arrivals, up 8.2 per cent from the previous year. The Malaysian delegation includes representatives from hotels and resorts, travel agencies, tourism product owners, and state tourism bodies. They will display their different tourist goods and services tailored to the Middle Eastern market during the course of the four-day event.

The mission aims to enhance the commitment to establishing good tourism cooperation, engaging in future collaborations, and cooperation with the travel & tourism industry in the region. “We will continue to place a strong emphasis and focus on attracting Middle Eastern tourists to Malaysia, so naturally we will be stepping up our promotional efforts here,” said Dato’ Sri Nancy during the launch.

Dato’ Sri Nancy will meet with top executives from prominent Middle Eastern airlines throughout the event to discuss future partnerships.

Dato’ Sri Nancy will attend the signing of the Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) between Tourism Malaysia and Emirates, which will take place at the Emirates booth later today (10 May). This MOC will assist the Malaysian economy and boost economic links between Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates in the tourist industry.

Following that, on the 11th of May, Dato and Sri Nancy will hold a gala dinner to honour the tourist industry in Dubai for their support and cooperation in promoting Malaysia.
