Ministry of Tourism: Draft National Strategy and Roadmap for Medical and Wellness Tourism

Medical tourism (also known as medical travel, wellness tourism, or global healthcare) is a term that refers to the rapidly rising practice of seeking medical treatment across international borders.

Elective operations as well as complex specialist surgeries such as joint replacement (knee/hip), heart surgery, dental surgery, and aesthetic surgeries are commonly sought by travelers. In India, however, practically every sort of healthcare is offered, including psychiatry, alternative treatments, and convalescent care.

Affordability and accessibility of good healthcare services, ease of access to hospitality services, low waiting time, and availability of the newest medical technologies and accreditations are the key drivers of medical tourism and wellness tourism growth.

The fastest expanding industries in the world are healthcare and tourism. Medical Value Travel (MVT) is being advertised as a cross-industry offering.

India has risen to become a top-tier destination for medical value travel throughout the years as a result of its strong scores on a variety of parameters that affect overall treatment quality. With its emphasis on traditional remedies through AYUSH, India has become a popular destination for Yoga and Wellness.

The Ministry of Tourism has recognized the enormous potential of medical tourism and has been aggressively promoting and developing it.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Tourism has developed a Draft National Strategy and Roadmap for Medical and Wellness Tourism, which can be found at this link and on the Ministry of Tourism’s website https://tourism.gov.in/ under “what’s new” section
