Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya commemorated the 93rd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda on 19 May 2026 with a special programme coinciding with the celebration of International Museum Day 2026. The initiative aimed to honour India’s democratic leadership while promoting awareness around museums, heritage preservation, and cultural education.
As part of the commemorative programme, a special exhibition dedicated to Shri H. D. Deve Gowda was inaugurated, showcasing rare photographs, archival documents, and personal belongings associated with the former Prime Minister. The exhibition offers visitors an insight into his political journey, leadership, and contribution to the nation.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the exhibition was conducted by Dr. Sowmiya Ramesh, daughter-in-law of former Prime Minister Shri H. D. Deve Gowda.
In line with International Museum Day, celebrated globally on 18 May, the museum also organised an exhibition featuring ethnographic objects from the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya collection. Additionally, two short films — one on the museum and another on Shri H. D. Deve Gowda — were screened at the Parichay Gallery, providing visitors with a deeper cultural and historical context while highlighting the role of museums in conservation and education.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director of Prime Ministers Museum and Library said, “Through these exhibitions and special screenings, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya seeks to strengthen public engagement with India’s political history, cultural diversity, and museum heritage. Visitors, scholars, students, and the general public are invited to experience these commemorative programmes and explore India’s historical, cultural, and democratic legacy.”
