Vietjet, Vietnam’s new-age carrier, and Airbus have officially signed a landmark contract for the purchase of 20 new-generation wide-body A330neo (A330-900) aircraft. This monumental deal, worth US$7.4 billion based on the manufacturer’s list price, was sealed at the prestigious Farnborough International Airshow 2024. This agreement is one of the most significant transactions at this year’s Airshow.

Strategic Expansion and Fleet Modernization

The newly ordered aircraft will be integral to Vietjet’s growing long-haul services and will also be deployed on high-demand regional routes. These aircraft are set to replace Vietjet’s existing fleet of A330-300s, supporting the airline’s strategic vision to expand its intercontinental flight network. This fleet upgrade underscores Vietjet’s commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient fleet, ensuring superior passenger experience and operational efficiency.

Enhancing Vietjet’s Operational Capacity

Vietjet’s Chairwoman Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao remarked at the signing ceremony: “The new A330neo aircraft strategically enhances Vietjet’s fleet development, boosting the airline’s operational capacity to support its global expansion. The introduction of advanced, fuel-efficient A330neo aircraft into Vietjet’s fleet is part of our sustainable development strategy and ESG goals, aiming for Net-Zero emissions by 2050. Passengers will soon enjoy safer, more comfortable, and modern long-haul flights. Airbus planes have enabled Vietjet to bring cost-effective flying opportunities to over 200 million passengers, including many first-time flyers, connecting peoples, nations, and continents, and promoting economic development and cultural exchange.”

A Vote of Confidence in Airbus

“We are pleased to finalize this milestone order with one of Asia’s fastest-growing carriers,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales, at Airbus Commercial Aircraft. “This is another vote of confidence in the latest generation of Airbus widebody product lines. It demonstrates the tremendous versatility of the A330neo for all types of business models and networks, from domestic and regional to long-haul routes. The award-winning Airspace cabin also enables airlines to provide the best flight experience for passengers, fully adaptable to each business model. This will be the perfect platform for Vietjet Air to fly more people, farther, and at lower costs while also reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.”

Vietjet’s Expanding Fleet and Network

With a fleet of over 105 aircraft and a steadily increasing passenger volume, Vietjet is aggressively expanding its intercontinental flight network. The airline’s collaboration with global strategic partners such as Airbus is pivotal in developing new and modern fleets.

Strengthening Presence in India

In India, Vietjet has made significant strides with several strategic expansions. The airline operates a total of 29 weekly round-trip flights, establishing direct connections between Vietnam and four key Indian cities: New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kochi. Vietjet’s extensive network and modern fleet ensure seamless connectivity and high service standards, catering to the growing demand for air travel between Vietnam and India. The airline’s dedicated crews and attractive promotions are tailored specifically for Indian customers, further solidifying Vietjet’s presence in this important market.

Sustainable Growth and ESG Goals

Vietjet’s acquisition of the A330neo aircraft is a testament to the airline’s commitment to sustainable growth. The A330neo is renowned for its advanced technology, fuel efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions. This acquisition aligns with Vietjet’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, particularly its aim to achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2050.
