Suman Billa appointed as Director General of Tourism, and Mugdha Sinha appointed ITDC MD.

Senior IAS officer Suman Billa has been appointed as the new Director General (Tourism) in the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. He serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and earlier served as Joint Secretary in the ministry from 2014 to 2019, where he played a key role in shaping India’s tourism policies and campaigns.

Following this, He was appointed as Director of Technical Cooperation and Silk Road Development at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), enhancing India’s global presence in the tourism sector and contributing to sustainable tourism development worldwide.

Meanwhile, Mugdha Sinha, a 1999-batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as the Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation Limited (ITDC). She takes charge at the rank and pay scale of an Additional Secretary, bringing her vast administrative experience to the forefront of India’s tourism development strategy.

Before this, she served as the Director General of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism. This role allowed her to shape tourism policy and strategy at a national level. Her elevation follows her empanelment for the Additional Secretary rank in May 2024. In October 2022, she was appointed Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, a role that expanded her expertise in managing India’s cultural initiatives and tourism promotion efforts, cementing her credentials in the sector.

This significant bureaucratic reshuffle announced by the Centre, involved the appointment of 25 officers as Additional Secretaries and the in-situ elevation of 15 officers to the rank and pay of Additional Secretary across various ministries and departments, marking a major administrative overhaul.
