Red Sea International Airport Welcomes It's First International Flight

Red Sea Global (RSG) is set to achieve another milestone as it prepares to welcome its first international flight to Red Sea International Airport (RSI). Operated by flydubai, this flight from Dubai International (DXB) marks the beginning of a new era of global connectivity for The Red Sea destination.

The Red Sea’s Rise in Tourism

RSI’s strategic location within three hours of flying time for 250 million people positions it as a key gateway to The Red Sea. At full capacity, RSI aims to serve one million guests annually. With the successful launch of domestic flights by Saudia in September 2023 and now flydubai, there will be eight flights per week to RSI, opening up the destination to visitors from the UAE, the wider Middle East, and beyond.

Luxury Resorts and Future Developments

The Red Sea currently boasts two luxury resorts: Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, and St. Regis Red Sea Resort, which recently hosted legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his family. Three more resorts are set to open this year, including Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and Shebara, featuring overwater stainless steel villas. Desert Rock, a stunning resort nestled between the mountains, will also join the lineup.

Commitment to Sustainability

RSI is not just a hub for tourism but also a model for sustainability. It is on track to become the first carbon-neutral airport in the Middle East, implementing innovative solutions to reduce and offset carbon emissions. This includes using local materials, 100% renewable energy, and minimizing light pollution.

Innovative Terminal Design

RSI’s terminal, set to open fully next year, is a testament to innovative design. It is divided into five ‘mini terminals,’ which can be operated independently or concurrently based on demand. This approach significantly reduces the building’s energy consumption compared to a standard centralized terminal.

Future Outlook and Expansion

flydubai’s inaugural flight to RSI signifies the airport’s role in connecting The Red Sea to the world. The airport’s Chief Commercial Officer, Michael White, expressed excitement about the next phase of development, emphasizing RSI’s commitment to exceptional services for passengers and airlines.
