Red Sea Global and Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation Partner to Develop Exhilarating Adventure Experiences

Red Sea Global (RSG), renowned for developing regenerative tourism destinations such as The Red Sea and AMAALA, has announced an exciting partnership with the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation (SCHF). This collaboration aims to elevate adventure tourism in the Red Sea region, making it a prime destination for thrill-seekers worldwide. The activation of this partnership will be channelled through Akun, RSG’s adventure sports brand, which is responsible for all hiking, climbing, and adventure experiences across RSG’s destinations.

A New Era of Adventure Tourism

RSG and SCHF’s partnership promises to revolutionize adventure tourism by creating exhilarating and safe experiences that complement the luxury of RSG’s resorts. As Nicholas King, Group Chief Development Officer at Red Sea Global, states, “Modern luxury tourism is as much about adventure as it is about comfort. Our partnership with the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation ensures that Akun can offer invigorating experiences that complement the elegance of our resorts safely and professionally. Together, we are propelling the adventure tourism industry across the Red Sea region.”

Training and Certification for Guides

One of the key elements of this partnership is the development of training and certification pathways for climbing and hiking guides. SCHF, as the national governing body for rock climbing and mountaineering in Saudi Arabia, will provide trainees with real-world experience through work placements and internships with Akun. In return, SCHF will offer qualified trainers for temporary training support and permanent recruitment, ensuring that all guides meet international standards of safety and professionalism.

Showcasing Saudi Arabia’s Natural Beauty

Yasmin Gahtani, Managing Director at SCHF, highlights the unique landscapes of Saudi Arabia, especially along the Red Sea coast. “Saudi Arabia has some of the world’s most stunning landscapes. We want to help Saudis and the world discover this dramatic terrain by opening it to exhilarating, yet safe, climbing and hiking experiences. Through this partnership, we can make Saudi and the Red Sea a must-visit destination for the most avid climbers, hikers, and thrill-seekers.”

Events and Competitions

The collaboration between RSG and SCHF will activate RSG’s destinations through a variety of local, regional, and international events. Climbing competitions, hiking events, and festivals will highlight the natural beauty and adventure offerings of the Red Sea region to domestic and global audiences. These events will provide exposure and business opportunities for local communities, further enhancing the tourism ecosystem.

Ensuring Safety and Sustainability

SCHF will also offer technical and safety assessment services to validate new assets developed by RSG. This expertise is crucial in ensuring that all adventure experiences meet international safety and sustainability standards, certifying RSG’s developments as world-class adventure destinations.

Comprehensive Adventure Resources

RSG and SCHF are exploring the development of hiking and climbing content for the Red Sea region. This resource will provide detailed information on trails, climbing sites, logistical information, and safety guidelines. By showcasing the Red Sea region as a premier hub for outdoor enthusiasts, this initiative aims to attract a global audience of climbers and hikers.

The Red Sea Project’s Vision

The Red Sea welcomed its first guests last year, with three hotels now open. Domestic flights to RSI have been regular since September 2023, and international flights commenced in April 2024, including a twice-weekly route between The Red Sea and Dubai International. Upon full completion in 2030, the destination will boast 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also feature luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and leisure facilities.
