Rajasthan marks a strong presence at ITB Berlin, showcases heritage and sustainable tourism model

The world’s largest tourism trade fair, ITB Berlin 2026, opened on Tuesday in Berlin, the capital of Germany. On this occasion, the Rajasthan Tourism Department pavilion opened formally with ribbon cutting by Union Tourism Minister of India Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Ambassador of India to Germany Ajit Vinayak Gupte.

Rajasthan Tourism Commissioner Rukmani Riar, Additional Director Pawan Kumar Jain and Joint Director Dr Puneeta Singh attended the ceremony. They welcomed international delegates, tour operators and visitors. The Rajasthan pavilion drew attention due to cultural grandeur, architectural style and new presentation.

On the first day, Commissioner Rukmani Riar held an interaction with European and German tourism stakeholders. She pointed out notable similarities between historic forts of Rajasthan and palaces of Germany in terms of architecture and heritage conservation. She said relations between Rajasthan and Germany do not remain limited to tourism. Both regions share traditions related to heritage protection, strategic construction style and cultural sensitivity.

In her address, she said that at first glance, Rajasthan in India and Germany in Europe appear geographically different. One side shows a vast desert, while the other side shows forests and river valleys. Yet when historic forts and royal palaces appear before the viewer clear architectural similarity becomes visible. This participation by Rajasthan Tourism gave new momentum to the identity of the state in German and European markets.

During the coming days of ITB Berlin, Rajasthan will present its rich heritage, tradition of hospitality and sustainable tourism approach before the global platform through business meetings, cultural presentations and dialogue sessions.

It may be noted that this international event began in 1966 and was established as a leading platform of the global tourism industry. This year marks the 60th edition of the event, which highlights six decades of the journey and achievements of global tourism. Known for its organized structure, the fair includes geographical sections of countries and destinations along with major sectors such as adventure tourism, business travel, medical tourism and travel technology.
