• Qatar Tourism attended ILTM Cannes 2021 from 6 to 9 December in Cannes, France
• In the last 20 months, Qatar welcomed a host of new five-star hotels, football stadiums and restaurants
• Luxury properties set to open include Raffles Hotel, Fairmont Hotel and Resort, Place Vendome and Rosewood Doha
Qatar Tourism at ILTM Cannes 2021 promoted the country’s new tourism developments and luxury products. In accordance with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, Qatar is becoming a prominent destination as it extends its tourist offering.
The tourist is at the centre of all new programmes and initiatives in the country’s tourism strategy. As part of the ‘Qatar Tourism Strategy 2030,’ the country has added a slew of new luxury hotels, theme parks, shops, and significant recreational projects, many of which have just opened or are due to open in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 TM.
Over 100 new hotels and serviced apartments are now being built in Qatar, adding to the country’s already large property portfolio. A Raffles Hotel and Fairmont Hotel and Resort at Katara Towers, Rosewood Doha, and the St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island are among the new hotels.
The hotels will increase Qatar’s allure to high-end travellers by adding to the country’s existing 80 five and four-star hotels. Qatar will increase and improve assets and attractions, improve the end-to-end customer experience, invest in Service Excellence, and execute a focused marketing approach to target point-to-point (P2P) and stopover tourists with the goal of increasing the tourism industry to 12 per cent GBP by 2030.
“We are continuing to grow our tourist offering and are thrilled to introduce guests to the finest of Qatari hospitality,” said Berthold Trenkel, Chief Operating Officer of Qatar Tourism. We welcomed more than two million tourists to Qatar in 2019, and we expect similar growth now that we are inviting visitors back to the nation.
“With less than a year until the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 TM, now is the ideal time to travel to Qatar.” Qatar is a welcoming gateway to the Middle East, combining urban modernism and stunning scenery with Arabic customs, cuisines, and cultures. We have a rich cultural legacy, five-star luxury hotels and resorts, great outdoor activities, beaches, museums and cultural sites, all of which are ready to be explored.”
Place Vendome, a shopping mall with 580 retail outlets, two five-star hotels, and entertainment zones, West Bay North Beach project with six beaches, restaurants, and outdoor activities, and Qetaifan Island North, set to be Qatar’s first entertainment island with five-star hotels and resorts, beach clubs, and water parks, are among the major tourism projects in the pipeline.
Travelling in safety and comfort A simplified set of steps has been devised to make travelling to Qatar as simple as possible while keeping the required precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
In 2021, Global Finance classified Qatar as the third safest country in the world for managing and preventing Covid-19 outbreaks, and the country completed a successful immunisation campaign, with over 85 per cent of the population completely vaccinated as of December 6, 2021.
The “Qatar Clean” initiative, which was created in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, enforces the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness, as well as stringent processes to assure consumer safety.
The initiative is being expanded to restaurants and pushed out to other areas like transportation, shopping, and culture now that 100% of Qatar Tourism-licensed hotels are ‘Qatar Clean’ certified.
To offer a safe experience at hotels, shopping malls, and the country’s health clubs and salons, the measures include social distance, periodic sanitization of surfaces, and touchless payments.
Furthermore, Qatar Airways was the first airline and the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to receive a 5-Star Covid-19 Airport Safety Rating from Skytrax. Hamad International Airport (HIA) was also the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to receive the same 5-Star rating. At the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2021, Hamad International Airport was also named the “Best Airport in the World.”
