Mumbai’s CSMIA witnesses positive boost in international passenger movement

With international borders reopened and regular international flights resumed, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) saw approximately 6.3 lakh passenger movements in the first month. From March 27th to April 27th, 2022, Mumbai Airport saw nearly 120 daily movements to a total of 41 international destinations.

The first month saw approximately 2.8 lakh international passengers arrive and approximately 3.5 lakh international passengers depart from CSMIA. Dubai was the top destination, with approximately 1.62 lakh passengers travelling in a month. While Abu Dhabi and Singapore were ranked second and third, respectively, they experienced high passenger traffic from CSMIA, with 0.43 lakh and 0.40 lakh passenger movements.

During the same time period, 3720 movements to international routes were recorded. IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates emerged as the top airlines serving the most international passengers to and from CSMIA.

Prior to the pandemic, 44.8 per cent of the 51 international destinations served by CSMIA were Middle Eastern countries, 25.8 per cent were Asia Pacific countries, 20 per cent were European countries, and 5.9 per cent were African countries, and 3.5 per cent were American destinations.

The CSMIA also began its summer schedule on March 27 with approximately 5000 weekly domestic and international flights. This new schedule is expected to increase by 111 per cent over CSMIA’s operating roster for FY21. The CSMIA’s summer schedule has been curated to accommodate the increasing traffic, with nearly a 70% increase in the number of flights compared to approx.

The daily traffic schedule for 2021 is 418. From March 27, 2022, all international passengers must show only their vaccination certificates to travel internationally, while those without a double vaccination certificate must show a negative RTPCR test report taken at least 72 hours before boarding the flight. Passengers departing from Mumbai, on the other hand, will continue to adhere to the destination country’s rules.

With pent-up demand for travel and the excitement of summer vacations, CSMIA is more than prepared to meet the growing demand. The CSMIA strives to provide a seamless travel experience to all passengers passing through the airport while adhering to mandated covid norms and regulations. CSMIA strives to be a Gateway to Goodness and is on its way to becoming a destination for best-in-class experiences by providing therapeutic shopping as well as a wholesome food experience, in addition to access to the lounge and Pranaam services.
