Moscow Strengthens Ties with India to Boost Tourism and MICE Engagement

Expanding Collaborative Tourism Efforts Between Moscow and India

The dynamic relationship between Moscow and India continues to thrive as the Moscow City Tourism Committee intensifies its efforts to position Moscow as a premier travel destination for Indian tourists. With a renewed focus on leisure and business tourism, Moscow aims to strengthen its presence in the Indian outbound tourism market, particularly targeting engagement in meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).

Rising Popularity of Moscow Among Indian Travelers

India has emerged as a critical strategic partner in Moscow’s tourism landscape. After 2020, Indian tourists became one of the largest non-CIS groups visiting Moscow, a trend that has continued to gain momentum through 2024. In the first half of 2024 alone, Moscow welcomed approximately 28,500 visitors from India—a significant 1.5-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023.

This remarkable growth can be attributed to several key factors, including the launch of Russia’s e-visa system in August 2023, which simplified travel processes for Indian passport holders. By streamlining the visa process, Moscow has successfully captured the attention of Indian travellers, particularly business delegations and MICE participants.

Strategic Vision for Tourism Growth

Mr. Evgeny Kozlov, First Deputy Head of the Office of the Mayor and the Government of Moscow, Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee,“While most tourists visit Moscow for cultural, educational, and entertainment purposes, the city has also been focusing on expanding business tourism, which is now a significant contributor to the local economy. By 2030 the number of foreign tourists is expected to reach 6 million people, mainly due to travelers from the CIS countries, the Asia-Pacific region, India, the Middle East and other parts of the world.

Moscow’s Participation in the OTM International Tourism Exhibition 2025

To further cement its position as a top destination for Indian travellers, Moscow is set to participate in the OTM International Tourism Exhibition in Mumbai from January 30 to February 1, 2025. This prestigious event will showcase the best the Russian capital offers in cultural, leisure, and business tourism.

Over three days, attendees will experience a comprehensive presentation of Moscow’s diverse tourism offerings, including its world-renowned museums, architectural marvels, vibrant art scene, and state-of-the-art conference facilities. The exhibition will provide Indian stakeholders with a firsthand look at why Moscow remains a preferred destination for both tourists and business professionals alike.

Moscow Business Mission and High-Level Engagements

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Moscow City Tourism Committee will host a series of significant events to foster partnerships with Indian industry stakeholders:

An exclusive reception will be held to welcome key Indian partners. High-ranking officials, including Ivan Fetisov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai, Victor Gorelykh, Director of the Russian House in Mumbai, and Evgeny Kozlov, Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee, will be in attendance.

This reception aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and provide a space for meaningful dialogue between Russian and Indian tourism stakeholders.
