In March of this year, the Kerala Travel Mart hosted a virtual summit, supporting over 7,000 business meetings and allowing the travel industry to make significant progress in overcoming the Covid-caused economic crisis.
Kerala Travel Mart (KTM), the country’s largest tourist industry gathering, will hold its eleventh edition in Kochi in March 2022, boosting attempts to revitalize the pandemic-affected tourism sector by luring people from all over the world.
The event will kick off on March 24, 2022, at the Grand Hyatt in Bolgatty, Kochi, with the following three days of events taking place at the Sagara and Samudrika Convention Centre in Willingdon Island, according to Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas.
Because the upcoming edition of KTM coincides with the State Government’s introduction of the Caravan Tourism initiative, the event’s main topics will be caravan tourism and adventure tourism, with the internationally acclaimed responsible tourism receiving special emphasis, Shri Riyas remarked.
Given that domestic tourists have resumed travel while many other countries have yet to completely restart travel to India after the pandemic-induced limitations were lifted, KTM 2022 will have a stronger emphasis on domestic shoppers. The event is expected to attract over 1,500 purchasers, which is a significant increase over prior editions.
KTM was planned with the domestic market in mind, according to Dr. Venu V, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism). This will assist revive tourism and offer a qualitative shift to the sector.
Shri Baby Mathew, President of KTM, stated that KTM 2022 will enable a significant resurgence of the entire industry.

KTM arrives at a time when the travel industry is hopeful about the embryonic Caravan Tourism, which has the potential to put Kerala on the world tourism map in the same way that Houseboat Tourism did previously.
The government is coordinating efforts across departments to advance Caravan Tourism, a groundbreaking project being developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis with private investors, tour operators, and local communities as key stakeholders to ensure a safe, customized, and close-to-nature travel experience.
Kerala Tourism had been considered holding a physical KTM since then to promote Kerala as a state that was quickly returning normalcy following the pandemic.
KTM was held online from March 1 to 5, 2021. At the event, a virtual buyers meeting drew attendees from all across the world, including India. The majority of international buyers came from the United States and the United Kingdom. Brazil, Germany, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and France were among the others in the category.
The majority of the domestic customers were from Maharashtra, with a sizable contingent based in Mumbai. The states of Delhi, Gujarat, and Telangana also made the list.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in the state 20 months ago, the KTM Society, the country’s largest group in the travel and tourism sector, has been striving to revive the business.
