Kerala Tourism focus will now be on activity-driven and experiential tourism
With a slew of awards and accolades from around the world, Kerala Tourism will launch a slew of new initiatives and events that will transform the state into an all-year destination and make the stay of modern tourists a restful, rejuvenating, and educational experience by revealing to them the alluring charm of the rural hinterland and lesser-known locations.
The state’s revamped tourism initiatives now place a greater emphasis on introducing new destinations, conceptualising creative tourism circuits, investing in infrastructure development, expanding the award-winning Responsible Tourism initiative, which enables visitors to experience village life and benefits local communities, and ensuring better connectivity.
This was disclosed at a press conference given by Mr Sreekumar S, Deputy Director (in-charge) of Kerala Tourism, today at the Eros Hotel in the city as a part of the Kerala Tourism Partnership Meet. At the meeting, there were more than 200 travel and tour providers from Delhi.

Kerala Tourism will also showcase the award-winning STREET hubs, which stand for Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, and Ethnic Tourism and carry tourists far into the state’s interior and rural hinterlands, as well as the cutting-edge caravan tourism (Keravan Kerala).
Raising its profile beyond the celebrated image as a land of entrancing natural beauty. This will allow it to become an interconnected tourism hotspot by taking visitors to the state’s interior to explore its unknown or little-known spots.
The state government of Kerala has launched a project to mount digital and airport-based marketing efforts, stressing its enormous potential in this attractive category. This initiative is part of a coordinated effort to promote Kerala as a global wedding destination and a paradise for honeymooners.
The three initiatives—”Destination Wedding Campaign – Airports Translites,” “Destination Wedding Campaign – Social media, Google search & Display ads,” and “Promotion of Destination Wedding Microsite”—will highlight the state’s inborn advantages that make it the perfect choice for a destination wedding.
As part of the “Destination Wedding Microsite” project, e-brochures featuring attractive images of perfect wedding locations and material in both English and Hindi will be created. Also, Google advertisements will be used to promote websites and electronic brochures online.
Kerala will also make use of its much-praised Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission, which enables tourists to experience country life while helping the communities where they are staying.
The Mission is currently the first government-owned organisation in the region to offer local communities training, marketing, and other support systems as they launch various initiatives in the tourist industry. The RT Mission will be able to receive funding from regional authorities and other organisations if it registers as a society.
At the World Travel Market (WTM), London, the RT project won the worldwide prize the previous year. The New York Times has since released a list of 52 locations to visit before 2023, with Kerala being the sole Indian destination on the list.
The ongoing Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KBM), India’s only event of international contemporary art, whose fifth edition is garnering a stupendous response from connoisseurs of art as well as tourists from around the world, will be promoted along with other tourism activities to make deep inroads in domestic and international markets.
