Jazeera Airways, the first Kuwaiti carrier to operate with an all-female deck and cabin crew
Kuwait to Riyadh flight marks International Women’s Day 2023, highlights Embrace Equity
Jazeera Airways, Kuwait’s leading low-cost airline, made history by operating its first-ever all-female deck and cabin crew flight. The flight was in honour of International Women’s Day and flew from Kuwait to Riyadh, with a message of diversity, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
A Breakthrough in a Male-Oriented Industry
Jazeera Airways is the first Kuwaiti airline to have an all-female crew operate a flight. The eight-member crew, including the pilot and co-pilot, flew the airline’s A320neo aircraft, carrying 172 passengers. This breakthrough marks a significant milestone for women in the aviation industry, an industry traditionally considered male-oriented.
Embracing Equity
This initiative aligns with the theme of International Women’s Day 2023, “Embrace Equity.” The airline’s mission to promote diversity, inclusion and gender parity within the industry has been lauded by many. Jazeera Airways believes in absorbing diverse perspectives from employees to create a stronger, more innovative, and more successful organization.
A Passion for Breaking Barriers
Jazeera Airways began operations in 2005, and since then, it has expanded to operate 19 aircraft, serving 59 destinations across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, Africa, and Europe. With an employee base of over 1,200 individuals from 68 nationalities, the airline values diversity, inclusion, and gender parity.
Rohit Ramachandran, the CEO of Jazeera Airways, expressed his appreciation for the crew, stating that “While it is a historic moment for us, for these hardworking women, it is just another day at work.” He believes that the employees are the backbone of the company and that Jazeera Airways is an equal-opportunity employer.
A Promising Future
This historic event marks an essential milestone for women in the aviation industry. Jazeera Airways’ commitment to promoting diversity and gender equality is evident, and their participation in the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 25by2025 initiative is a testament to that. The aviation industry remains an exciting place to build a career and break barriers, and Jazeera Airways is committed to leading the way.
