India’s Tourism Sector Shines Bright at EXPO2020 Dubai

India Pavalion at EXPO2020 records 8,00,000+ visitors.

The ‘Tourism Fortnight’ at EXPO2020 Dubai wrapped off Tuesday, with the industry promoting India’s main capabilities in medical, luxury, adventure, sustainability, and MICE tourism.

The first session, which was inaugurated on January 3rd by Shri Rakesh Kumar Verma, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, emphasised the Ministry of Tourism’s new policy framework and presented five missions that will help the industry flourish. The India Pavilion’s Tourism Sector Floor presented the numerous aspects of India as a tourism destination, as well as the potential for expansion in all types of tourism.

The five missions were: National Green Tourism Mission, to mainstream sustainability in the tourism sector; National Digital Tourism Mission, to digitalize the sector; Sectoral Mission on skill development, to ensure that the country has the best trained and qualified manpower to maintain high service standards; National Mission on Destination Management, to ensure synergy and coordination among public and private stakeholders; and National Mission on Sustainable Tourism.

Ms Hoor Al Khaja, Associate Vice President, International Operations – Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, spoke during the opening session about India’s importance as a worldwide tourism destination.

Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and different Indian states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, presided over numerous sessions during the Tourism Fortnight.

The medical tourism session was critical in demonstrating India’s capabilities and capacity to provide both contemporary and traditional medical systems, hence giving a holistic healing destination for people all over the world.

The luxury tourism session highlighted the changing face of luxury tourism in India, as well as premium tourist attractions around the country and government attempts to make travel safer and more secure.

EXPO2020

The session on spiritual tourism focused on India’s potential to become a spiritual and religious tourist hotspot, given the country’s tremendous cultural and religious variety.

The MICE tourism session was particularly crucial in exhibiting India’s remarkable blend of hotel and conference support services, which has helped the country become a popular MICE destination throughout the world.

Shri Arvind Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, spoke about the ways in which India’s tourism business is growing as part of the World Majlis event Off the Beaten Path – Travel in the Twenty-First Century, held on January 13, 2022.

Given the growing importance of sustainable tourism, the session on sustainable tourism was critical in addressing key challenges for the tourism sector as well as the ways in which sustainable and responsible policies and actions by governments and the private sector can shape the future of tourism.

The ‘Tourism Fortnight’ workshops were vital in demonstrating India’s geographical variety, promise as a tourist destination, and promoting India’s tourism strategy.

Tourism Fortnight also saw virtual participation from dignitaries such as Shri G Kamala Vardhana Rao, Director General, Ministry of Tourism (Government of India), Smt. Rupinder Brar, Additional DG, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, Smt. Shilpa Gupta, Addl. Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Shri Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, Prof Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr Sangita Reddy, Past President FICCI and Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, Mr Rajeev Kohli, Joint Managing Director, Creative Travel, Mr Rajiv Aggarwal, Director & Head of Public Policy, Meta – India to name a few.
