Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (LA Tourism) Embarks on a Pioneering Market Research Expedition in India

In an unprecedented move, the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board (LA Tourism) took its quest for deeper insights into the world of Indian travel to five thriving secondary cities across the subcontinent. The cities in focus included Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Chandigarh.

Exploring the Indian Landscape

LA Tourism assembled a remarkable team to spearhead this enlightening journey. The roster included the venerable Mr. Don Skeoch, Chief Marketing Officer, and the insightful Ms. Gina Triglia, Director of Tourism Insights. They were joined by the dynamic duo of Regional Director, Ms. Seema Kadam, and Ms. Lakshmi Hariharan, Manager of Global Communications, both rooted in India.

Forging Connections with Trade Partners

During their sojourn, the LA Tourism team engaged extensively with key trade partners hailing from Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Chandigarh. Their mission? To shed light on the exciting developments and upcoming events that the City of Angels is set to host, including the eagerly anticipated IPW 2024 and the grand finale – the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A Glimpse into the Indian Traveler’s World

At the heart of this ambitious expedition was the pursuit of profound insights into the Indian traveller’s psyche. Given that India is currently one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, LA Tourism aimed to understand the Indian traveller inside out.

“The potential growth in the influx of Indian tourists to Los Angeles is nothing short of remarkable, and we are thrilled to welcome a larger number of Indian visitors than ever before. The bond between Indians and Angelenos runs deep, from the magnetic connection between Bollywood and Hollywood to our shared passion for sports, culinary innovation, street food, arts, and culture,” enthused Mr. Adam Burke, President, and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board.

Mr. Don Skeoch, the Chief Marketing Officer of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “LA takes immense pride in not only being the sole U.S. destination with an office in India but also the only DMO conducting a comprehensive market research study across secondary cities in the country. India is, without a doubt, the prime emerging market for Los Angeles, and this market study lays a solid foundation for our marketing and strategic plans in the coming fiscal year.”

A Year of Milestones for LA

As 2023 unfolds, Los Angeles finds itself at a historical juncture, with several iconic landmarks celebrating their centenary. The legendary Hollywood Sign, Warner Bros. Studios, LA Memorial Coliseum, and Millennium Biltmore Hotel are all marking their 100th anniversary. Moreover, the city is all set to welcome new attractions, including Destination Crenshaw, the largest public/private Black art program in the U.S., and the Intuit Dome, the forthcoming home of the LA Clippers, scheduled to open its doors in 2024. Los Angeles is a city in perpetual evolution, brimming with fresh ideas and boundless discoveries.

Charting the Path Forward

In this pioneering venture into the Indian market, LA Tourism has not only broadened its horizons but has also established new connections and alliances. With India’s incredible growth as a travel market, the insights gathered from this research will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping LA Tourism’s strategies, ensuring that the City of Angels remains a top destination for Indian travellers in the years to come.
