St. Stephen’s Day Celebrations in Hungary to Feature Europe’s Grandest Fireworks Show
Hungary is gearing up to host Europe’s most extravagant fireworks display on August 20, celebrating the nation’s founding and honoring St. Stephen, its first king. The event, marking St. Stephen’s Day, is one of Hungary’s most significant annual celebrations, with hundreds of activities spread across 19 locations, drawing vast crowds.
The fireworks show will be a spectacular affair, spanning five kilometers from Petofi Bridge to Margaret Island along the Danube River. With 45,530 pyrotechnic effects launched from three Danube bridges—Liberty, Elisabeth, and Margaret—spectators will enjoy breathtaking views from both sides of the river. The display, synchronized via a digital computer system, ensures safety with EU-certified devices.
In addition to the pyrotechnic spectacle, the event offers a variety of family-friendly activities. Culinary enthusiasts can savor traditional Hungarian dishes at the Csárda Festival and Hungarian Flavors Street. Other highlights include the Festival of Folk Arts at Buda Castle, military history exhibits on Heroes’ Way, and creative showcases at Millenaris Park.
St. Stephen’s Day has become a major draw for both domestic and international visitors. Expectations are high for a record-breaking turnout, potentially surpassing the 2019 attendance. The celebrations promise a memorable experience, with Hungary offering warm hospitality and diverse cultural attractions.
