The recently concluded Bolsa Turismo Lisboa Travel Market (BTL) held at FIL – Feira Internacional de Lisboa atividades, Lisboa, Portugal from 1st to 5th of March, 2023, saw a splendid display of the vibrant culture, history, and cuisine of Goa by the Goa Tourism Department. BTL is an annual event that brings together travel agencies, tour operators, and tourism promotion offices from different countries, offering them an opportunity to showcase their unique offerings to the market and the general public.

Innovative Pavilion to Promote Tourism in Goa

The tourism department set up an innovative pavilion that beautifully displayed the essence of Goa, showcasing glimpses of various tourist spots around the state, its rich culture, history, and culinary delights. Shri Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary of Tourism of Goa, inaugurated the Goa pavilion on the first day of the event, while the Hon. President of Portugal, Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, also paid a visit to the pavilion. The visitors at the stall had an exhilarating experience exploring Goa through a VR Headset and a large touch-screen panel that provided a virtual visit to Goa via the Goa-360 degree website.

Meetings with Dignitaries

The second day of the event witnessed a meeting between Shri Rohan Khaunte, Hon. Minister for Tourism, IT & EC and Printing & Stationery, Government of Goa, and his excellency Mr. Manish Chauhan, the Indian Ambassador to Portugal at the Goa pavilion. The discussions primarily focused on socio-economic advancements to promote tourism. The minister also met with Mr. Nuno Fazenda, State Secretary for Tourism and Commerce for Portugal, to discuss collaborative business interests at the trade fair and conducted meetings along with Shri Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary of Tourism of Goa.

Promotion of Upcoming Festivals

On the third day of the event, numerous visitors from the industry came to visit the Goa pavilion with different points of interest. The officials of the Goa Tourism Department took the opportunity to promote upcoming festivals such as Shigmotsav Festival and Chikal-kalo, encouraging visitors to participate and enjoy the traditional festivals that bind the Goans in harmony.

Promotion of Sustainable Tourism

The Goa Tourism Department also promoted sustainable tourism activities such as e-bike tours, spice plantation tours, Konkan explorers, regeneration of beaches, eco-resorts, bungee jumping, kayaking, and much more to an international audience, hoping to make Goa an experienced and responsible tourism destination.
