Fiji welcomed their first flight of overseas guests this morning as they reopened their borders. After nearly 20 months of border closures, the thrilling milestone signified the reintroduction of foreign tourism in the picturesque country.
Fiji is now accessible to fully vaccinated travelers from travel partner nations for quarantine-free travel as of today morning, December 1, 2021. The first aircraft, from Sydney, Australia, arrived at 11:25 a.m. Fiji time with 300 passengers looking forward to their first tropical island vacation.
The country, which is ready to safely welcome visitors back thanks to a successful vaccination rollout that saw well over 90% of its eligible population receive both doses, does have some travel requirements in place to ensure visitors can book and travel with confidence that they are keeping themselves and the locals of Fiji safe.
Travelers to Fiji must be fully vaccinated (children under the age of 18 can travel with a vaccinated adult), and those above the age of 12 must have a negative RT PCR test done 72 hours before boarding their aircraft to Fiji. Visitors to Fiji will be able to relax and enjoy their vacation knowing that everyone they engage with follows the strictest health and safety guidelines.
“It’s such an exciting day for Fiji and for our tourism industry. It’s been a long time coming! From airline to accommodation, Fiji tourism operators and related services have worked hard to ensure and uphold internationally benchmarked COVID-safety practices. The resumption of both domestic and international tourism is a credit to Fiji’s collective commitment for public safety, and safe and seamless travel, coupled with our famous bula spirit!” said Brent Hill, CEO Tourism Fiji
The economy had an immediate impact when Fiji’s borders closed in March 2020. Tourism has always been significant to Fiji and its people, accounting for about 40% of the country’s GDP and employing roughly one out of every eight Fijians.
While travel restrictions between India and Fiji have been abolished, tourists from India who want to visit the islands of Fiji may have to wait a bit longer due to ongoing travel restrictions between the two nations. They can rest assured, however, that Fiji, as declared by the World Travel and Tourism Council, is ready and eager to welcome them back with open arms as a safe travel destination.
Fiji continues to be an excellent location for travelers looking for a calm tropical vacation where they may stay in boutique luxury resorts and immerse themselves in the Bula Spirit. Fiji is the ideal setting for an adventure, a romantic getaway, or a relaxing vacation.
