FAITH, the policy federation of all national associations representing India’s entire tourism, travel, and hospitality industry (ADTOI, ATOAI, FHRAI, HAI, IATO, ICPB, IHHA, ITTA, TAAI, TAFI), has made an urgent request for the opening of India’s international borders to tourists and the full operation of all commercial flights to and from the country.
According to FAITH, the Indian inbound and outbound travel industries have remained closed for the previous 23 months. In the pre-COVID year of 2019-20, the Indian travel sector welcomed almost 10.9 million international tourists and generated about $ 30 billion (Rs. 2.12 lakh crores) in income, while also booking trips for nearly 26.9 million Indian outbound travelers.
In the loss of these jobs, both of those lines of business have been entirely shut down, causing great pain, unemployment, and financial hardship for employees and firms in the Indian tourism sector.
With the effect of Omicron decreasing, many nations have opened or announced opening their borders to fully vaccinated travelers.
FAITH has asked MOT to take up the matter with the Ministry of Health in India and proclaim the reopening of our borders and the resumption of full commercial flights with zero quarantine for properly vaccinated travelers across all Indian ports.
FAITH has also proposed that the free e-visa be extended from the present 0.5 million for the entire period of 2022-2024, till our incoming travel returns.
FAITH has requested the immediate rollout of a global marketing campaign across all digital, print, electronic, and out-of-home media in all global markets of India to ensure that Indian tourism is able to regain and then build on its market share of 1%, which was previously held in the global inbound travel market.
