candinavia – the land where rugged fjords meet expansive wilderness teeming with wildlife and boundless adventure, where the only competition that natural beauty faces is from stunning UNESCO sites, where Viking presence is still felt but is countered by the unique culture of the Samis, where chic cities seamlessly amalgamate rich history, where cutting edge design goes hand in hand with sustainable living.
Scandinavian countries have much to offer. “Whether it is for families, couples, honeymooners, independent travellers or small groups of friends, there’s something across these countries for every kind of Indian traveller,” says Mohit Batra, Responsible for Tourism Promotion of Scandinavia In India. “The Indian traveller is now looking actively at celebrating milestones at destinations which are magical unique and unforgettable. Self-drive is a perfect way to discover and experience more on their own, at their own pace. We invite you to come and Explore Scandinavia, and you have to be there to believe it” Mohit further added.
In its 9th edition this year, with events in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, the event aims to engage the travel trade and showcase destinations represented by Scandinavian partners from across the region. This includes National Tourist Boards, Regional Tourist Boards, ferry, voyage, train & Airline operators and off course the destination management companies. The exercise aims to enhance destination knowledge of Indian travel professionals, introduce new regional travel products besides providing an opportunity to learn and experience each other’s culture and business needs.
Scandinavia might sometimes seem distant but it is actually closer than you may imagine. And now with easy access and connectivity offered by Air India and Emirates it is even closer, quicker than ever before. Time difference between the countries is just three and a half hours. Most importantly English widely spoken across the region making it easy, enjoyable & experiential.
RAJG4135Contrary to popular belief, it is also easy to find accommodation options across budgets in Scandinavia. It’s certainly an added bonus that many come with Scandinavian design and aesthetic sensibilities. From charming boutique hotels to familiar and popular global hotel chains such as Radisson, Scandic, Nordic Choice Hotels, ARP Hansen group and Thon Hotels, there’s plenty of choice.
But it is in the area of food that Scandinavia offers perhaps the best of modern thinking. Though a new culinary wave began sweeping through the region over a decade ago and got dubbed as New Nordic Cuisine, its constant re-invention has been regarded as something desirable across the rest of the world. Characterized by innovation, strong ties with nature and simplicity, it has been setting standards for others to follow. But having said that, the region is a virtual smorgasbord of cuisines – almost any global food can be found here including a large number of Indian restaurants with several vegetarian and vegan options.
