Shri Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Tourism and Defense, today flagged off the Buddhist Circuit special train from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station. The Ministry of Tourism has organized a Buddhist Circuit Train FAM Tour and conference from October 4th to October 8th, 2021, to tap into the potential of Buddhist tourism. Senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, the IRCTC, and other industry stakeholders were present for the flag-off ceremony. The IRCTC officials made a special effort to welcome the visitors.
Prior to flagging off the journey ‘Buddhist Circuit Train FAM Tour and Conference,’ Sh. Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Tourism and Defence, spoke to the media at Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station about the importance of touring Indian destinations first before experiencing global destinations because we have such great heritage like the Buddhist Circuit Tourist Train which covers the destinations. The Minister emphasized the importance of domestic tourism in capturing the true spirit of the “Dekho Apna Desh” campaign.
From Delhi to Delhi, the FAM tour includes visits to important Buddhist sites and conferences in Bodhgaya and Varanasi. At Bodhgaya and Varanasi, the FAM tour will include visits to important Buddhist sites as well as conferences.
Around 125 participants are expected to participate, including tour operators, hoteliers, media, and officials from the Ministry of Tourism and state governments.
In conjunction with multiple central ministries and state governments in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Ministry of Tourism is building a Buddhist circuit that will take visitors to Buddhist sites throughout Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Connectivity, infrastructure, and logistics, cultural study, heritage, and education, and public awareness, communication, and outreach are the key verticals of development under the Buddhist circuit.
Major initiatives under the above-mentioned headings include the establishment of international airports in Kushinagar and Shravasti, as well as the operationalization of RCS UDAN lines connecting Buddhist destinations. Construction of national and state highways connecting Buddhist locations, development of Bodh Gaya under the Iconic Sites and Swadesh Darshan schemes, and establishment of museums and heritage centers at Buddhist places.
Digitization and preservation of manuscripts in Buddhist Tibetan institutes, as well as the creation of Buddhist courses, are all examples. There are interventions planned for the promotion of Buddhist sites and heritage in India under the Public awareness, communication, and outreach vertical, such as the development of a virtual gallery on shared Buddhist heritage at the National Museum, the creation of an annual calendar of events, a Buddhist media campaign in key source markets, a Buddhist conclave, and so on.
