The first iteration of the “Autumn Festival” to honour Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was hosted on the lawns of Nagaland House in New Delhi by the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland, and the Office of the Chief Resident Commissioner, with the support of Nagaland Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio, the Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA), and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Gyan Bhushan IES, Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India said, “The autumn festival organized by Nagaland Government at Nagaland House, New Delhi showcases an excellent holistic flavour of the state in terms of art, culture, cuisine, music etc and is a prelude to the Hornbill festival to be held in Nagaland in December.”
The event’s highlights were live performances by renowned Naga musicians Imna Yaden, Yangertoshi Longkumer, and Governor’s Award winner Sunep Lemtur. The throng was also drawn to a fashion show put on by the brand Mongken, a project of the Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA). Mongken’s mission is to give indigenous designers, talented artisans, and craftsmen from Nagaland the chance to make a living, especially in disadvantaged areas.
The event featured textiles, handicrafts, and regional culinary products made by young entrepreneurs and artisans in the state in an effort to promote local business and Made in Nagaland goods. Additionally, the festival was intended to give attendees a taste of the impending Hornbill festival, which begins on December 1.
The festival featured dancing groups from several tribes that captivated the audience in order to bring in the true traditional character.
Embassy representatives as well as dignitaries from other Ministries and State Bhawan attended the event.
