Ahmedabad Airport SVPI will have a green cover of 20,000 trees, as well as a landscape cover of 10,000 sqm shrubs and a landscape cover of 20,000 sqm green carpet turf, is planned for the near future.
Carbon emissions in the civil aviation industry are caused not just by aeroplanes, but also by airports. New Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, and Vadodara airports, for example, have taken initiatives to reduce their carbon footprints. And now, by joining the league, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA or Ahmedabad International Airport) is paving the road for a greener tomorrow.
SVPIA has planted almost 2,000 trees of over 20 different species at the airport as part of its current projects, which are in line with the worldwide objective of expanding green cover.
The airport had roughly 6000 trees just before privatisation a year ago, and it has already grown to 8000 trees in just one year, with an addition of 2000 trees.
The SVPI airport has taken numerous steps to increase green cover and reduce carbon footprint, one of which is growing vegetation within and outside terminal buildings. The airport has planted around 2000 square metres of bushes and 1200 square metres of green cover utilising turf in just one year of privatisation.
The greenery has risen as a result of proactive efforts by SVPI airport, bringing us closer to the objective of greater sustainable development through various projects for a greener future.
About 6000 trees have grown to 8000 presently, with a goal of 20,000 in the next four years, with 10,000 sqm of shrubs that were 5000 sqm a year ago and have grown to 7000 sqm by January 2022. The green carpet lawn was originally 10,000 square metres, but it has now grown to 11200 square metres, with plans to expand to 20,000 square metres in the future years.
In reality, the new year 2022 began with the upgrade of the airport’s outside spaces, which included over 100 palm trees, 5,000 beautiful shrubs, and 10,000 floral annuals.
The interiors of terminals 1 and 2 have been improved with nearly 400 beautiful planters and 2,500 indoor plants, respectively, to improve the internal microclimate.
At SVPIA, it’s not just about planting trees and shrubs; it’s about taking a holistic approach to ensuring sustainable practices at all levels, including the implementation of environmental standards and controls, green infrastructures, reducing noise pollution, adopting sustainable best practices, developing fuel efficiency, implementing an energy and water conservation policy, and systematic recycling.
SVPIA has taken various pioneering and affecting initiatives to promote a green and sustainable environment as a crusader.
SVPIA is one of the most environmentally friendly airports in the world, delivering the greatest service to its customers now while aiming for a more sustainable future.
Furthermore, the airport has strived to ensure that its actions are implemented by making the most use of its available resources. Through its efficient and easy-to-use facilities, SVPIA meets the highest safety and security requirements, exceeding customer expectations while also producing value for its stakeholders.
