Sustainability is becoming a cornerstone in luxury hospitality. How does Conrad Pune execute Hilton’s LightStay program, and what measurable impacts have you observed so far?
At Conrad Pune, sustainability isn’t just a practice; it’s part of who we are. In line with Hilton’s global sustainability vision, we’ve fully integrated the LightStay program into our daily operations. This powerful platform allows us to closely monitor key areas like energy use, water consumption, waste management, and carbon emissions, ensuring we make informed, responsible choices at every level.
We’ve made real strides in reducing our environmental footprint, from adopting solar power and motion-sensor lighting in public spaces to optimizing our HVAC systems for greater efficiency. Our water conservation efforts include installing low-flow fixtures and encouraging linen reuse, helping us conserve valuable resources without compromising guest comfort. One of our most meaningful milestones has been the complete elimination of single-use plastics across the property. We’ve replaced them with reusable containers, biodegradable packaging, and an in-house water bottling plant, all of which support our long-term zero-waste goals.
LightStay not only helps us to improve social impact and environmental sustainability but also enhances community involvement, volunteer programs, and local partnerships. We also offer sustainable event solutions through Hilton’s Meet with Purpose initiative, empowering our corporate guests to host events in an environmentally responsible manner. All things considered, LightStay has been essential in providing outstanding guest experiences while maintaining a keen awareness of our responsibilities to the community and environment.
How do you balance delivering a luxury experience while maintaining environmental responsibility?
Sustainable stays are no longer a trend; they’re becoming a priority for today’s travelers, who are increasingly mindful of how their choices impact the environment. That’s why, at Conrad Pune, we see sustainability not just as a responsibility but as an opportunity to integrate thoughtful practices into our daily operations without ever compromising on luxury.
We strive to be socially responsible for every initiative we take, from the design to daily operations are carefully embraced with sustainability. We’ve taken big steps to make our property greener without compromising on the high standards our guests expect. 78 % of our energy is derived from Wind and solar energy. We have reduced our carbon emissions by more than 6,400 tons. By converting biodiesel for the boilers, we have saved more than ₹17 lakhs and reduced emissions by another 230 tons.
In order to conserve water, we’ve introduced waterless urinals, reuse treated water from our STP (sewage treatment plant), and a rainwater harvesting facility. Additionally, we have eliminated single-use plastics, and compost food waste and garden waste are used as natural fertilizer for the garden.
Through these initiatives, we can establish a connection with our guests who appreciate responsible travel. At Conrad Pune, we’re demonstrating that sustainability and elegance can coexist harmoniously.
Culinary offerings are a significant draw for luxury hotels. Can you elaborate on the concept and impact of exclusive restaurant takeovers at Conrad Pune?
We at Conrad Pune aim to redefine luxury hospitality in every possible way. What we strive to provide our guests is unforgettable and unique experiences. Each culinary pop is carefully curated by the team under Chef Pradeep Rao, Executive Chef of Conrad Pune. Each partnership is meant to offer our guests international cuisines and dishes without requiring them to travel far. All the recent partners like Rabbit Hole, Nadodi, or NAAR by Chef Prateek Sadhu were opted with at most minute scrutiny without compromising the quality and luxury. These pop-ups have helped the brand to be the beacon of luxury and uniqueness in every possible way.
Are there any upcoming food and beverage promotions or partnerships that guests should look forward to?
This June, Conrad Pune has a variety of culinary experiences planned across our venues. At Pune Sugar Box, guests can enjoy the Mango Festival and the creative Donut Festival. At Kabana, the Monsoon Menu features handcrafted seasonal cocktails, designed to capture the charm of the rainy season.
We’re also hosting special events like Margherita Alfresco and Miya Ji Ki Rasoi, where Chef Husban Qureshi will present signature Awadhi home-style cuisine. Our long-term vision at Conrad Pune is to remain the top destination for travellers who seek comfort, luxury, and eco consciousness in one shelter. Our prime location in the heart of Pune allows us to serve as a top choice for both Indian and international guests.
Looking ahead, we plan to strengthen our venues and culinary offerings to host more corporate events, while continuing to deliver exceptional dining experiences. As Pune grows into a major economic and cultural hub, our focus remains on offering highly personalized experiences that reflect the city’s evolving character and aspirations. Your background spans diverse roles and geographies. How has this multifaceted experience shaped your leadership style at Conrad Pune?
IIM-Lucknow and the Oberoi Centre of Learning & Development have provided me with a solid foundation that has defined my career journey in the luxury hospitality and real estate industries. In Thailand, I’ve had the honor of working with some of the most prestigious brands in the business throughout the years, including Marriott, Hyatt, Oberoi, The Leela, DLF, and GOCO Hospitality. Every position and every place taught me something new, which aided in the development of my open to change, inclusive, and incredibly guest-focused leadership approach.
I’ve gained experience leading with both strategic vision and emotional intelligence, from managing intricate operations to spearheading post-pandemic recovery initiatives like at Hyatt Ahmedabad. I want to establish a culture at Conrad Pune where everyone feels proud and has a feeling of possession. I am capable of approaching leadership with balance, clarity, and an emphasis on long-term value generation. My expertise in a variety of disciplines, including finance, sales, human resources, and asset management has equipped me to show commitment to the hotel business by joining the hotel executive committee of the Gujarat Chambers of Commerce and business.
As a member of various industry bodies, how do you see the hospitality landscape evolving in India, and what role does Conrad Pune play in shaping this future?
The Indian hospitality landscape is undergoing a dynamic transformation—driven by evolving guest expectations, digital integration, and a growing emphasis on sustainability and wellness. As someone actively engaged with industry bodies, I’ve had the opportunity to observe and contribute to this evolution firsthand.
